Thursday's Treasure

I could not walk away from this deck of cards at the antique store.  Gorgeous jadite green color, precious kitties, rickrack, and a spool of thread?  Worth every penny of the $3 price tag!

I can't make out the artist's name on this signed double deck, but these are so frame-ready beautiful!  I think I paid $4 for these, and the plastic holder is one I've never seen before.  It's hard to tell from the photo, but the holder tilts in toward the center to showcase the cards.  A clear plastic lid (not pictured) completes the ensemble.

My friend Evelyn of ModishVintage has recently been blog sharing some of her amazing vintage collections . Do check them out by clicking HERE! She has inspired me to share some of my own treasures with you. Are you ready? My name is Jennie, and I am a vintage playing card freak!! There, I said it. It's the first step, right?

My criteria for purchasing these cards is very simple. I don't care if there is a full deck. I don't care who made them. I don't even care how much they cost, since they generally only go for $1-$5 in thrift shops and antique stores. I care that they are not all bent up and ugly. And, they must not smell.

Why playing cards, you ask? I sure wish I had an answer for you! I guess I love that the old ones are little pieces of art. I adore their colors and patterns. They remind me of a simpler time. I like to give out vintage rose playing cards with my sosorosey orders, and I often include a fun one with sosovintage orders too. One thing is certain, I have more cards now than I will EVER need. Will I buy more? You betcha!

The main treasury opened up at the perfect time yesterday...about 11:20 am, while my daughter was at preschool. I have had these two colors on my mind lately, and I was thrilled to be able to find super items from etsyfriends, csst, and design style guide members. Go teams!

I don't snag treasuries as often as I'd like, so when I do, I feel an overwhelming urgency to include all of the people who are kind enough to include me in theirs from time to time. There are just never enough spaces, so I know I need to double my efforts in this department! Another Inexplicable Obsession: Vera

No, not the waitress from Mel's Diner. That really WOULD be inexplicable, wouldn't it? This Vera is Vera Neumann, the first VERA of design fame, the Amy Butler of the 60s. Much like the vintage pink towels I shared with you in a previous post, I am unable to NOT purchase these old Vera items when I cross their path. I have no idea why. Well, yes I do...they make me happy!

Creature Comforts

It's the little things that make me happy. Literally and figuratively! When I need a boost, I look no further than my sunroom. So many little treasures beckon from special nooks, you'd have to try really hard not to smile!

I found this little vintage rooster dish on a thrift outing this week. It is perched on top of an old Cherrystone Farms candy tin. The colors here make me want to make something...now!!

This little vintage fairy bunny pin is one of my all time favorite possessions. She was a mere $1.50 at the local secondhand shop. Is she magical or what?




This is the back of a vintage deck of playing cards that I found new in their package at the Goodwill. I WILL do something with these one day. Any ideas?

Guilty Pleasures

I admit it. I have a problem. I am unable to NOT purchase vintage pink bath towels. I don't seek them out, mind you. I'm not scouring eBay or rushing out maniacally to every thrift store in town. I just can't leave them behind if I happen upon them.

Their sweet floral patterns and old-fashioned feel remind me of treasured times at Grandma's house. They speak to my oh-so-feminine side, and make me smile from the inside out.

Whatever will I do with them? In my mind, I imagine them brimming from a guest bath closet in a little mountain or beach getaway cottage. For now, they grace a shelf in my home and wink at me with the glint of possibility, spurring me on in my daily endeavors.
