Makeover Monday: 10/3

It's been a loooong time since I started a big crochet project just for the heck of it.  Poking around in my stash, though, I found all these sheets that were just too pretty to sit around waiting for "someday".
~*~
After I got started, I realized I needed more fabric... so I added these two lovelies to the mix.
~*~
Voila!  This fun rug is about halfway finished.  It should measure about 3 feet by 4 feet when it is all said and done.  I'm looking forward to seeing her all laid out for a photo shoot in a week or so :)
~*~
Welcome to a new week!  I got my flu shot and a TB test today.  I need the TB test because I am going through the rehiring process with my old school system.  Not back to teaching, but working for human resources as a collaborator for teachers who are in need of support.  The hours are flexible and the pay is good, so woohoo!  Other than that, this week I have a coffee date with another mom and I am volunteering at Sophie's school for the kindergarten hearing and vision screenings.  What are your big plans for the near future?  If you haven't already done it, don't forget to leave your comment for the Price is Right game (see post below)!

The New Rug

A new half-moon *mezzaluna* rag rug is ready to grace the sosorosey shelves.  This one is made from two entire freshly laundered queen size bed sheets... one that is primarily greens with bits of plum and orchid, and one that is primarily plum and orchid with bits of green.  Both sheets were purchased with a rug in mind, but I had no idea how well they would go together in the same rug!  This one measures 16" deep and 32" across- perfect for in front of doors and sinks or beside the bed :)

Makeover Monday: 1/23

Here are those blue and brown fabrics again...
~*~... and here is the rug so far- just about halfway done! I shocked myself by nailing the correct amount of fabric for the first half of the rug almost perfectly. Now I just need to retrace my steps for the second half. When finished, this rug will be 2 feet across by 5 feet long.

If you haven't left your comment in the previous post, there is still time! Come on and play The Price Is Right!!

Making Ready

Some of you may remember part of a black, raspberry and white rug that was featured on a makeover Monday awhile back. That rug was never born; my customer changed her color scheme before I got too far. Since the customer is my mom, I couldn't be too upset!
~*~
So now I have her request for a set of matched rugs in blues and browns. These are to be two decent sized rugs, and you can't even imagine how much fabric and planning goes into this kind of order. I know I can hardly imagine it, and I'm the one doing it.
~*~
I decided to start with the smaller of the two rugs, so I chose 10 of the 18 fabrics I have gathered for this project. I cut those in half- putting one set aside to be incorporated into the bigger rug, and cutting the other set into quarters.
~*~
These are the fabrics that will make up the first rug. What do you think, Mom? Fingers are crossed that you like the colors. If so, I'll get started this weekend and have some progress to show you all for Makeover Monday!!

Makeover Monday: 7/19

Yes, you've come to the right blog. I know these aren't colors that you typically see me work with. Just another reason I love custom orders- it helps me break out of my rosey rut!
~*~

This will be a two (or more?) part makeover, as this is all I have completed on this project so far. When it is finished, it will be an oval rag rug for a contemporary bathroom- measuring 48" long and 30" wide. Stay tuned for more progress!
~*~
Happy Monday! What's going on in your world these days? This week I am looking forward to getting lots of new goodies listed in both shops. I am hard at work designing the 2010 sosorosey Christmas ornaments, too. Now that the dreaded dentist visit is over, I am full of relief. Have to get an oil change and a foot check up this week. Hoping to get the all clear to go to the American Idol concert boot-less on Friday. Wahooooo- Lee, here I come!!

Makeover Monday: 1/25

Last week was a little bit stressful for me. I had some major PMS, a customer I couldn't please, a to-do list a mile long that seemed to grow longer with each passing day. You know those weeks. So, for today's makeover, I pulled out a pillowcase that I knew would soothe my frazzled self!
~*~
Whenever there is discord and strife, there are always roses. Soft, pink, flannel Waverly roses- to be exact!
~*~

This fabric didn't want to be anything but a coaster. And guess what? I have the entire queen sized set!! Do you know what that means? Yep... I'm thinking rug. Want to get me moving on it? Just send me a message and say, "I want that rug!!!"

~*~

Happy, happy Monday... May your week be bright and sunny

(and rosey and pink)!

Rectangular Rug: Check!

Yippee! I put the finishing touches on the rectangular rug last night!
~*~

She weighs in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and will be making her way to her new home in Wisconsin very soon. She'll be sure to add a super dash of color, charm, and comfort to the kitchen!

Next?

As I sit here preparing to crochet the LAST round on my giant rug, I am already gathering fabrics for my next endeavor! I must be getting a touch of spring fever, because I'm envisioning a luscious, sunshine filled rug in the fabrics pictured.

According to poll results from a few months back, rag rugs are most popular in the kitchen and sunroom/porch...so tell me, what shape would you consider? I love to make round and rectangular rugs, but I can stretch my wings and go for oval or half-moon as well. Please leave a comment and/or vote on the poll widget to the right.

Thank you in advance for your help! Happy weekend :)

And Lastly, The Rug Says...

GO GREEN!!

I can't think of a better Earth Day message, and I am really proud of this creation!

This one of a kind 3 foot diameter round rug will be listed in my shop this weekend. It will be reserved for the team challenge event (details to come!), then, much to my hubby's dismay, it will be for sale!

What are you proud of this wonderful Wednesday?

And in the Sky...

...rainbows danced!

Only one more phase of the project to complete! Well, two if you count writing the description for the listing. Almost there, in any case; she will be 3 feet wide when finished! Let me know what you think of the new burst of color...

Earth Day Challenge: Part 3

~*~
I've often wondered how large an item I would have if I crocheted an entire sheet. This lovely vintage Vera sheet by Burlington measured 72 x 104 (inches) before hemming; the round rag rug you see in the photos measures almost 18" across!
~*~
~*~
I considered leaving it as is for my team challenge project, and marketing it as a large table coaster/rug or even a pet food bowl mat. That just isn't special enough, though, so I'm going bigger. I've had a brainstorm (look out!), and plan to make this a "message mat" for a totally unique and ultracool "green minded" rag rug. Stay tuned for updates! Tree huggers unite!
