Thursday's Treasure

~*~
We had our new student orientation last night at Sophie's new school.  She was given a school t-shirt and a tour of the school from the principal.  There were refreshments served, and kids and parents were encouraged to ask any questions they could think of.  We left feeling very comfortable with how to get around, and we even got to sneak in a "hello" to Sophie's teacher who was busily putting the finishing touches on her classroom set up.

My girl awoke this morning at 6:22, and was making her bed before I could even get up the stairs to greet her.  She was breakfasted, dressed and ready a full 45 minutes before it was time to leave for the bus stop!  The bus finally arrived- it seemed to take forever since we were there 14 minutes early and it was 6 minutes late.

So, aaaaah.  The treasure of the first day of school.  I can't wait to hear all about it this afternoon, but until then, I will savor every moment of peace and quiet :)

Day of Firsts

 ~*~
Today my baby has her first day of first grade.
~*~
 ~*~
It's the first time this new backpack gets to go to school.  Also the first time that Sophie didn't correct her dad by saying, "It's a shirt" when he said "I like your dress".
~*~
 ~*~
Last year Sophie and I were the only ones at her bus stop.  This year she gets to wait with two other little girls who are starting kindergarten.  And I get their moms and grandmas to talk to!

Is it just my "mother instinct" or can you also see a distinct change in her expression from the first photo to this one?  I think once the bus got here her nerves hit.  I'm glad that I am going in to help out in the cafeteria at lunch time.  Being a PTA mom has its perks.  Wishing all other first day of schoolers and their moms and dads a wonderful day!

First Day

We woke up to pouring rain this morning.  Sophie's excitement over the first day, however, was undeterred.
She came out of her room earlier than ever and bounded through her breakfast and morning routine.  The rain slowed a bit as we headed to the bus stop.  Our bus driver is the same one from last year, so she was right on time at 8:40 am.
~*~
Sophie really didn't want to stop for a photo, so this one was all I could manage.  The driver asked if Sophie was in kindergarten, and when I said yes, she had her sit in the first seat.  I heard a little voice from the middle of the bus yell, "Hi Sophie!"... one of her neighbor acquaintances.  Sophie turned to the friend and waved, the driver closed the door, and like that, they were gone.

I'm going to try to keep myself busy today- anxiously waiting to hear how the first day went.  I was so happy to see my baby head off on her new adventure without fear or trepidation.  May it always be so.
