A Nice Surprise

I woke up this morning to an Etsy convo telling me that one of my items was featured on The Play Date Blog showcase.  I popped on over, and sure enough- my baby's first Christmas star is there on the top right hand side.  You can see it by clicking HERE!  Besides the fact that it's a huge honor to be acknowledged on such a gorgeous site, it's also a nice reminder that you never know who is out there poking around in your shop and appreciating what you do.  I hope your day has a pleasant surprise, too :)

Getting to Knooooooooow Youuuuuuuu

There he is. My celebrity crush: Mark Wahlberg. I love him in all of his roles, whether he's rapping his Marky Mark heart out, posing in his Calvin Klein undies, or playing a porn star in Boogie Nights. My absolute favorite Mark, though, is the Perfect Storm Mark. I don't know if it's the tough guy fisherman thing or the Massachusetts accent thing, but man oh man is this my "other" man. My main man Mike comes first, of course, but y'know.

Ever since many of you shared your interesting facts the other week, I've been thinking how nice it was to get to know you a bit better- and for all who leave comments to get to know each other as well. So, since we can't all get together in actuality and have a girly gab-fest, I thought I might host a "cyber spill it" session every once in awhile. So, I've been thinking. I know- look out! Bear with me.

As an Etsy seller, the pinnacle of Etsy success- or at least one thing that we'd all LOVE to achieve- is to be a chosen featured seller. The featured seller gets a fabulous interview that graces the front page of Etsy for days. Many, many hearts and sales ensue- I assume. They have instant Etsy fame!

Here's where my thinking comes in, and the part where I'm hoping you'll join in. Consider those visualization techniques; you know, "The Secret"... "see it to achieve it" type things. How would it be if each week we visualize together and work toward being the featured seller on our own blog? Like, choose a part of the featured seller interview and share it with your readers?

The way I see it, if we go ahead and prepare our answers, all we'll have to worry about *when* we are chosen by Etsy is getting a stunning photo of ourselves! In the meantime, our blog readers get to know us a little better. It's win, win.

Pinch Me!

One cold and dreary morning in early February, I was lurking around in the Etsy forums...reading posts about how to grow your business, reach your target market, bring business to your shop, etc. I typically avoid thinking about such things in relation to myself and my shop; I've done OK with people finding me, and I'm one of those anxious, fear the unknown sort of people. Or I used to be!

On a whim, I googled home decor blogs. I thought maybe I could find a high-traffic blog and pay for an ad slot as a small step in a bigger direction. I found several, of course, but the one that jumped out at me the most was thedecoratingdiva.com. Before I could think about it too much and chicken out, I sent them a short message introducing myself and my shop and asking for info regarding a potential site/product review. I logged off expecting nothing, but pleased with my itty bitty step.



Fast forward a month and a half. On Monday the 23rd I was flipping through my email, and clicked on my junk mail folder (which I almost never do). Inside that folder was a return message from the decoratingdiva! The message was sent on March 19th, and said that they would like to include one of my rugs in an upcoming article...I just had to have certain information sent to them by 3/23. THREE TWENTY-THREE????!!!! Had I missed the boat?



I sent a reply right away, and asked if I could send the info by that evening. The answer was yes! So, info was gathered and sent, and I sat on pins and needles waiting for the article to come out. What would it say? How would my rug fit into the picture?



On Friday, March 27th, the site was updated with the new article. I almost passed out when I saw the title: Top 12 Stylish Eco-Friendly Rugs - 2009! My big ole rug is #5 on the list; someone pinch me!
