Tuesday's Treat

~*~
My child is an imp.

Yesterday she earned a trip to the prize box in class.  What did she choose?  Oh, the wind up, lifelike scuttling cockroach, of course.  The one designed to give her mother a heart attack.  That one.

Her set up was pretty good, I'll give her that.  We have been having problems with stink bugs coming in because of her little window ac unit.  So, when she came home and went upstairs and then yelled for me to "Come up!  Hurry!  There's a big huge bug on my floor", I thought, "damned stinkbugs!"

What I saw when I raced up the stairs to save the day was a gigantic brown freak show running toward me.  I was fooled, for an instant.  My heart did beat faster until I realized there was no earthly way that thing could be real.  So I did what any great Mom would do.  I jumped and screamed like a lunatic, working the situation to give my child maximum glee.  She was laughing so hard she could barely choke out the words..."It's....not....real, ...Mom!!!"

Fast forward to tonight.  The above picture is what I saw when I glanced over to see the time during our nightly story ritual on my bed.  Apparently Sophie figured if I couldn't see the time I would read forever.  The neon post-its were not a subtle move, though not much about my daughter is.

The treat of living with a little one with a mischievous bent is that life is never, ever boring.  Exasperating and crazy making at times, but never, ever boring!

Makeover Monday: 7/8

Whew!  It's high time for a makeover, isn't it!?  It's been a looooong many days of decluttering and packing in the old house and preparing the new one.  I won't be fully out of house #1 until the 15th, and that's if all goes smoothly.  And it will, right?  For this week I am blessed to be based primarily at house #2, and it has been so amazing to see the hard work and effort my parents have made while I've been packing house #1.

Dad power washed the garage floor last week, and was disappointed with the results.  The stains of *vehicles past* refused to budge.  In true Mr. Awesome Superhero fashion, he went out and purchased a couple of gallons of epoxy paint- in a "fun" color (thanks, Mom!) .

And, he transformed a creepy, icky space into a happy car/storage zone in a few labor intensive hours.  Sometimes love looks like a green garage floor, my friends!

Tuesday's Treat

~*~
I'm a list-maker.  Responsible to a fault.  A *get things done* kind of gal.  So, when confronted with closing up one chapter of my life and moving on to the next, I face it with making phone calls and filling out forms and lining up packing supplies and movers.  These are the things that have to be done, right?
~*~
Ah, but there is so much more to be done that doesn't come in the form of a line item that can be checked off.  Things like feeling all the feelings that need to be felt.  Working through all of the emotional upheaval that comes with the end of a relationship.  Moving forward within a legal system that doesn't always move quickly or justly enough.  Trusting others to tend to the details that I cannot.  Mothering a little girl who is well aware that big changes are afoot, and helping her find the positive in each day and each opportunity.  Helping myself find the positive in each day and each opportunity.
~*~
The treasure in all of this turmoil is the support I am finding from friends and family, near and far.  People who take time out of their day to send an "I'm thinking about you" message or card.  People who unfailingly send their support in the form of prayers and thoughts.  People who are not afraid that divorce is contagious, and who are not afraid to talk to me even when they don't have a clue what to say.  Or, as in the case of my parents, people who put their own lives completely on hold to be there for me and Sophie through each step of this process.  Yes, *now* kind of sucks, but I am a lucky, lucky girl.

Tuesday's Treat

~*~
I guess the kids cleaned out their folders at school for the new year, because last week Sophie came home with a giant passel of papers.  This is one of the pages in her "my family" book, and it is way too cute not to share.  You can click on the photo to enlarge and read easier.   Let's see if you can figure out that last word on line three :)

Tuesday's Treat

~*~
Feeling busy and rather uninspired today.  Tired from the weekend, and stressed from having too many "obligations" at one time.  I was so tempted to let the day go by without a blog post, but then I thought of a new post idea.  I love to click on my activity feed on Etsy and see who has marked one of my items or my shop as a favorite.  But, I also love to click on the feed and see what my favorites have just posted.
~*~
I will often mark a shop as a favorite and then not visit again for months on end.  This activity feature keeps me more in the loop with some cool items!  So, unless I have some other BIG news to report on Tuesdays, I am going to randomly go to my feed and select something to highlight.
~*~
Today's treat comes from Sarah Stevens at cellardesigns.etsy.com.  I don't know Sarah at all, but she has an absolutely awesome shop.  These subway family signs are so in right now, and Sarah offers customization of both the colors and the wording.  Her feedback is not only 100% positive, but you can tell from reading the lengthy raves that she is loved by her customers.  Maybe I will be one of those someday!  Do you have a treat to share this Tuesday?

Makeover Monday: 4/9

Oh, the sweetness of a freshly dressed up little girl!  You can't see it in this photo, but it actually snowed a few flakes for a minute or two before we left for our family Easter celebration yesterday!
~*~
Once the Easter egg hunt began, it was a sports fiesta for the rest of the day!  Yes, Sophie is playing baseball and football at the same time.  There were also a frisbee and a basketball in the mix somewhere, too.
~*~
~*~
Apparently the very best game of all, though, involved all of the younger cousins ganging up on their oldest cousin, Pete.  What a good sport and a great cousin!
~*~
We're heading back from our trip this evening, and the rest of the week will be spent in "vacation recovery".   How was your Easter?  Any big plans for the week?  Do tell!

Sweet Family

Three darling elephants looking for a good home.  Small, quiet, and loveable.  A mismatched herd that prefers to stay together.  Ha- that last sentence could be the very definition of family, couldn't it?
