Fabric Origami Star

~*~
Thought you might be interested in seeing my finished vintage fabric origami star.  While I think it's pretty, it's not something that I think I'll make again.  The fabric is too thick compared to paper, and because of the folds, the end result is too bulky in the middle.  I have lots of these squares prepared, though, so I may try a different model.  Stay tuned!

WIP Wednesday

Sometimes it seems that my best ideas come to me when I don't have the immediate time to pursue them.  That gives me time to think out the details, though.

After contemplating all of the comments from yesterday's post, I came up with the most awesome new item!  Check it out: one of a kind special occasion origami star Christmas ornaments made from...
...wait for it...
... vintage gift wrap!

I KNEW there was a real purpose behind this collection of mine!  I have vintage wrapping paper for every occasion imaginable.  These top two stars are wedding themed, and the last one is new baby girl.  Wouldn't these make the coolest shower gifts?

I folded these using smaller squares, so they are the perfect size for hanging on a tree.  Now I just need to figure out the "hanger" part.  I want it to go through the middle if I can, since there is a natural opening there.  I'll play around with the possibilities over the next few days.  Look out for those and more vintage gift wrap goodies in sosofabulous before summer's end!

Inspiration Star

As you know from my sosorosey shop, stars have long held a special place in my heart.  So, I set out to find an origami star that I loved (and could make!).  And tahdah!
~*~
This is called modular origami- when a finished product is put together from several folded units.  This one is made from 8 units that I folded from 6" square origami paper.

The finished star measures 8.5" across!  I am SO excited to make one of these from vintage fabric.  An original "vinspiration star"!  Unfortunately, I don't think I have time to prep any fabric before my trip.  But, I have something else in mind to try tonight.  Stay tuned!!

Before I get carried away- be honest... is this something that you think would appeal to people?  They are flat, but they can be pinned to a corkboard or hung with a length of fishing line or framed...

Thoughts and ideas are much appreciated!
