Makeover Monday: 11/5

I have been searching for a new origami thing to make for Christmas.  I wanted something fairly quick and easy- something that I could make in the evenings when I'm tired and trying to unwind.  I found these cute wreath ornaments and directions and decided to give them a go.  They came out so sweet with my vintage gift wraps...click the photo to see more detail.  I predict there will be more of these in my future!

And, while I was using big huge labs for the "mosaic" up there, I played around with another photo thingy they have.  I think it's called frames.

It lets you turn any photo into a polaroid!

Or a stamp!  Isn't that the coolest?  Go have fun...but don't say I didn't warn you.  You may be there for hours.

Happy Monday!  I am positively spinning from all of the organizing and creativity flowing around here.  I have two days off of mommy duty while Sophie is visiting her grandparents, and I will be using every moment wisely.  Stay tuned for more fun projects this week!

WIP Wednesday

~*~
I feel very scattered this week.  Lots of projects in the works, and none seeming to get finished.  With Sophie out of school, my crafting time is relegated to evenings.  And, by the time the busy day with a 6 year old is over, I'm just tired.  I reach for the first thing that I feel like working on, and most of the time, I fall asleep before I make much progress.  Wah.

I have managed to make a few "retrorigami" cranes from vintage baby gift wrap.  I think these would make such fun baby shower favors, or a sweet gift for the mom-to-be.  Getting them photographed and listed will happen one of these days.  How are your projects coming along this summer?

Daily Dose of Cute

Just look at this adorable swashbuckler!  Apparently, back in the day, Hallmark did "Gift Wrap N Trim".  I found this unopened set at the thrift today for $1.  It was only 85 cents in the 70's, but who am I to quibble?  The pirate boy embellishment measures 11" by 8", and...

... he came with over 7 square feet of this sweetly printed paper.  If vacation HAS to be over, a good score at a favorite store makes the mountain of laundry a little less daunting!  What have you found lately?

WIP Wednesday

Sometimes it seems that my best ideas come to me when I don't have the immediate time to pursue them.  That gives me time to think out the details, though.

After contemplating all of the comments from yesterday's post, I came up with the most awesome new item!  Check it out: one of a kind special occasion origami star Christmas ornaments made from...
...wait for it...
... vintage gift wrap!

I KNEW there was a real purpose behind this collection of mine!  I have vintage wrapping paper for every occasion imaginable.  These top two stars are wedding themed, and the last one is new baby girl.  Wouldn't these make the coolest shower gifts?

I folded these using smaller squares, so they are the perfect size for hanging on a tree.  Now I just need to figure out the "hanger" part.  I want it to go through the middle if I can, since there is a natural opening there.  I'll play around with the possibilities over the next few days.  Look out for those and more vintage gift wrap goodies in sosofabulous before summer's end!

Thursday's Treasure

I'd recognize that Gloria Vanderbilt signature anywhere, but I sure didn't expect to see it on a piece of vintage Christmas gift wrap!  What a cool surprise.  Now, what will I do with my 2 sheets of designer paper?

Vintage Gift Wrap

I scored three packs of unopened vintage gift wrap yesterday- for just 90 cents!  This is my favorite- how cute are those bluebirds?  And their parasol?

This is an American Greetings design from 1972.  Two sheets for a total of almost 8 square feet!  Let's have some fun- how much do you think the original price was?  Leave a comment with your guess- I'll be back with the big reveal tonight!
