Thursday's Treasure

~*~
Finally!  I had been wanting to make a jute mat in this midcentury style for AGES.  When I had the time, I didn't have the supplies.  When I had the supplies, I didn't have the time.

 ~*~
This particular one measures 22" long and 13" wide-  large enough to be a floor mat and small enough to be a coffee table runner.  The beauty, though, is that this mat can be made ANY size, from a long, skinny rectangle to an 8 foot square!

Crocheted using three, 3-ply strands of heavy weight jute twine, it is super durable, flexible, and reversible.
What more could you hope for in rustic cabin decor?

  1. It's beautiful!!!! Does it come in black....is it washable....is it really thick...does the jute come in just the one color (lovely as it is) for example, a bit darker or lighter? You know what mama is thinking!! Just what I had in mind!!!!

  2. I love it Jennie, well done!
I know the exact feeling too re: the supplies/time dilemma!
Was the jute hard to work with? I have experimented crocheting various types of string and have found some of it quite hard to work as there was little give, but I havent tried jute. And may I ask what sized hook did you use?
    Have a great day Jennie

  3. Hi Mom~
As I was making that jute mat I thought this might be just the thing for your project! I don't think actual jute is a good option because it would be very slippery on your floor. BUT, I can achieve the same woven look with yarn by using a large hook, and it would be machine washable. Let me see what I can find in the colors you wanted, and we can go from there. if I make it and you don't like it, it's not a problem- I'll just pop it in the shop for someone else to buy :)

Hi Gill! I used a P hook for this one (11.5mm). I don't think the jute is hard to work with, but some people do. Give it a go!
