Makeover Monday: 12/7

I started out with a big stack of fabrics in greens and blues...
~*~

...and I'm halfway finished with this *ocean wave* inspired rectangular rug.
~*~

The colors are balanced, yet uneven. This lends a less structured, more freeform look to the overall rug versus a strict striping effect. I have promised to have this completed by 12/15- I'll post finished photos then!

Makeover Monday: 11/23

I started with this big, beautiful stack of shabby pink fabrics...

...and I am sooooooooo close to being finished with this custom oval rag rug. I have one more row to go, and it will be ready to fly off to its new home in New Jersey.
~*~
Next big projects: 26 small stars with 2009 charms, 20 yellow upcycled stars, and a rectangular rag rug to complement the green mezzaluna that I made a few weeks ago. Fun!!
~*~
Happy Monday! Whatcha got cookin', good lookin'?

Ready to Roll

I put the finishing touches on the big rug last night!
~*~

You can see how large she is in this photo:
those are my big old size 9 pink crocs.
~*~

Here she is all wrapped and ready to roll on down to Florida. I hope she brings many, many smiles and rays of sunshine to her new home!

Care to guess how much the happy bundle weighs?

Coming Along

The rug is coming along so nicely! It is 54" across now- only about 4 more rows to go and I'm home free. It's not going to happen for Makeover Monday, though.
~*~
I was getting a little stressed out about the last few rows; in order to maintain the integrity and flow of the current design, I needed to find a LOT of the same fabric. I wanted something in colors that would be just perfect to set the whole thing off in a special way.
~*~

~*~

I was elated when I found these special vintage sheets that I had tucked away for a "rainy day". The rainy day is here!! Look for finished photos sometime within the week.

Makeover Monday 9/21

~*~
Some of you may remember this Love Your Mother rag rug that I created for an Earth Day team challenge. It was 3 feet wide, and bursting with color and meaning!
~*~

~*~
As I hoped, someone found it and fell in love with it. It wasn't quite large enough for the space intended, though. So, I get to makeover (enlarge) my existing rug to bring it to a whopping 5 feet wide.
~*~
It is 44" wide now. 16 more inches to go! Can I possibly have the finished product for next week's makeover? We shall see...I'm off to go do some more right now!

More Progress

I have missed you! It's been a busy couple of days around here; I am excited to finally be able to catch my breath and get back to my daily blogging routine. Here is the new rug at 24". She will be finished soon, and I hope to have pictures of her new home to share, too.

New Rug In Progress

I've been hard at work on this round rug that will eventually be making its way to the UK.
~*~
It is currently 19" across, but will be 30" in diameter when it is complete. The new owner told me it is for a "bedroom in a rustic seaside shack". That sure made me wish I could deliver this one in person :)

Custom Large Rag Coaster: Check!

One of my very best customers recently sent me a large bundle of awesome sheets, pillowcases, and scarves that she thought I would like. As a side benefit for both of us, she sent an entire matching set that SHE really loved...so she asked me to make her a 24" table coaster/rag rug from them! I finished this baby last night, and am so pleased with the way it came out. I used the entire set of sheets and a pillowcase for this. Care to guess how much she weighs?

A Halfway Celebration

Usually, I don't like to do anything halfway. But, today I am celebrating the halfway done-ness of *the rug*. She is 5 feet wide!! I have run out of good space with natural light in my home for pictures, so today I carried my babe to the church where my daughter attends preschool. She looked sooooooo beautiful in the entry way with the stained glass windows all around. See more pictures by clicking HERE.

In the spirit of whooping it up, I thought I would share some interesting "halfway" info with you!
~*~
For instance, did you know there was a city named Halfway, Oregon (pop. 337)? Or how about the Massachusetts chain restaurant The Halfway Cafe? Heard of The Halfway Lake Resort in Newberry, Michigan? Or, my personal favorite, Halfway Home...a series on Comedy Central which explores the exploits of 5 ex-cons in a halfway house?

Hey, guess what? It's Wednesday...we're halfway through the work week! Are you halfway there with any of your projects? Please leave a comment and share your state of mid~ness!

How The Rag Rug Grows

It was just about a month ago when my friend Amanda at SygnetCreations sent me a message that someone had put in an alchemy request for a 5 foot wide, round rag rug. I went ahead and put in a bid, but did not hold my breath since I had to charge more than the person was wanting to spend and would not be able to have the rug ready by the date requested.
~*~
To my surprise and delight, my bid was accepted! Once the particulars were worked out, my customer got back in touch with me a few days later...she had remeasured the space, and now wanted the rug to be 7 feet wide! Running the numbers, I realized that the new size rug was about double the area of the 5 foot rug...it was going to cost twice as much and be twice as large.
~*~
The new price was accepted, and work began. The biggest initial challenge was picking out enough of the right fabrics in the customer's color choices.
Once the fabrics were approved, I got to work!
~*~
I work on this rug every single night. We have developed quite a relationship! I absolutely love her, and enjoy every second of watching her grow.
She is 4 feet wide now, and seems so big...I can't believe that she isn't even halfway finished!
~*~
I have high hopes of completing this project by Easter.
What do you think, can I do it?
The moral of the story, alchemy requests on Etsy can work!
Have you put in a bid or a request? I'd love to hear your success story!
