Feet Upon Feet

Ta da da da da daaaaaaaaaaaah! This newly finished rug just seems to go on and on and on!
~*~
It was super hard to get a good picture of the whole thing!
~*~

Here she is all rolled up and ready to travel to her new home to be with her little sister. She was born last night at about 9:45 PM. She is 60 inches long and 24 inches wide. BUT, can you guess how much she weighs? Leave a comment with your best estimate, and I'll be back to reveal her "birth weight" later this evening :)

Beyond Busy

What a whirlwind the last 3 weeks have been! I've been on vacation, battled a nasty cold, fulfilled several new orders, and received two new and exciting large custom orders!

Back at home now, with my health getting back in check, I am so excited to take a minute to share sneak peeks of the new projects in the works.

First, have a looksee at the first 22 inches of what will be a 7 foot wide round rag rug! This baby will be heading all the way to London when she is finished...via Missouri. She has a long road ahead of her, as do I!

Next, have a look at what will be an 18" wide, 6" tall lidded project keeper in neutrals. Ah, the simple, clean, natural beauty! This is about 13" wide so far.

I'll post more about these projects in days to come. What have you been up to? Please post a comment- I've missed you :)

A Rug is Born!

Date: January 21, 2009

Time: 2:09 pm

Height: 54"

Width: 30"

Weight: 5 lbs., 6.5 oz.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After an arduous yet pleasant multi-week labor, all 1, 620 square inches of "Sunshine" has arrived!
She embodies 16 different fabrics in all...4 modern cotton sheets, 3 vintage sheets, 3 men's shirts, 1 baby blanket, and 5 pairs of PJ bottoms.
She can't wait to go to her new home, though I am still contemplating the safest and most economical way to get her there. She will be met with a lot of love, that's for sure!!
Farewell, sweet Sunshine! May you bring and enjoy comfort and peace for many years to come.
Drum Roll, Please!
I am pleased to introduce the first quarter of my big ole custom rag rug! Making this has been such a pleasure. It is kind of intense to switch fabrics so often and still maintain the balance of color, shading, and texture. When I am working on this, I am in a "zone"; hubby knows that when he enters the room and sees me surrounded by my mountain of fabrics he should just back slowly away.
Adding to the excitement of this project is the enjoyment my customer gets from seeing her rug evolve. Each time I post photos to the listing in my shop (you can see the current ones HERE), I get a sweet message from her oohing and ahhing over the work I have done. For a crochet artist, it does not get any better than that!
Tall Lidded Container- Check!
My custom order for an 11" high, 6" wide lidded container is complete! My customer chose such beautiful, earthy colors; soft light brown, sage, and slate/stone. They blended beautifully (if I say so myself!), though pictures can't totally capture the subtle texture of this piece. You can view more pictures HERE.
Next on the custom agenda: a 2 foot by 4 foot rectangular rag rug in whites/blues/grapes, and a set of 20 upcycled ornaments for a Valentine tree. I'm SO excited about both of these special orders...stay tuned for pictures in the coming week :)
Custom Coaster- Check!
I'm an avid list maker. I LOOOOOVE to check things off. I do that thing where you put something on the list that you have already done, just for the satisfaction of checking it off.
What a big check mark I got to make after completing this whopper of a coaster rug! It was finished by the due date, Dec. 2nd *wipes brow*. I wrapped her up and mailed her off the next day, and now I'm waiting breathlessly for a message from her new owner.
In the meantime, I have two other really fun custom orders to work on! Stay tuned in the coming days/weeks for photos of a 6" wide, 11" tall lidded container, and of my first ever pet bed :)
