Wednesday's Works

~*~
I'm all caught up with orders in both shops at the moment, so I've had a little *just for fun* crochet time.  I started this set with the pink bowl, and was then struck with the notion of a Neapolitan ice cream theme.
~*~

~*~
I made this blue and white bowl last night.  It's slightly larger than my pillowcase "ball bowls" and would hold pencils or tallish craft supplies nicely.
~*~
I've been able to get some new fabrics and towels in sosovintage, but now it's time to get some of these new goodies listed in sosorosey.  For some reason I haven't felt up to that task, but it will feel good when the shelves are dusted and fluffed :)
~*~
Be sure to come back tomorrow.  {I know, two days in a row is a shocker!}  I'll be sharing one of my favorite "anthem songs" dedicated to my new friend Regina.  I'd love to hear one of yours if you have one!

Wednesday's Works

~*~
Whew, it's been a busy week!  It's hard to tell from the photo, I think, but this basket is hat box size.  She measures about a foot in diameter, and stands almost 6.5" high.  She's just waiting for her lid to be made.  I hope to have lidded photos for you tomorrow.
~*~

~*~
I finished the twin sister of the coaster I shared on Monday, so these are ready to head off to Oklahoma today.  Would love to see photos of them in their new home!
~*~

~*~
In my spare time, I tried my hand at something I've wanted to do for a long time- a cat toy.  This is the first one I whipped up.

~*~
Then I tweaked the size a bit, added organic catnip, and gave it a nose job and whiskers.  Sinatra is in heaven with his new toy, and I have them listed in sosorosey now, too.
~*~
What have you been working on these days?

Makeover Monday: 4/8

~*~
You may remember awhile back when I made the custom red ombre fabric bowl.  And that it turned out to not be right for what the customer wanted.  Then she decided on two round coasters instead of a bowl, but I had trouble finding the right red with black fleck fabric.  So I tried a mix of black and red yarn, but that wasn't right either.
~*~
At that point, this very patient customer asked if they could send me the fabric they liked.  Yes!!!  It arrived the other day, and here is what she found.  It is brand new from a fabric store, and while this would not be the type of fabric I'd typically be cutting up (just because it is not upcycled), it sure works for this purpose.

~*~
I'm not sure that I've ever seen a crocheted product look so much like the original fabric!  So anxious to hear how she likes it!

Makeover Monday: 4/2

~*~
I have many bunny faces and jute appliques to make this week, but I also have this beginning post for a wonderful makeover that will be happening in the next 10 days or so.  All of these fabrics will combine to make an heirloom lidded clutter keeper that will make its way to Australia upon completion.  Looking forward to working with a spectacularly kind and fun repeat customer on this project!

Makeover Monday: 3/25

~*~
Hope you aren't tired of Easter baskets!  After much deliberation, my last basket customer decided on a bucket style girl basket in pale pink, with some striping and bow in this pretty vintage print.
~*~

~*~
This may be one of my favorites of all time- and I've made quite a few of these over the years.  I adore the feminine color and bit of whimsy in the print.  I left the bow long because it hangs so sweetly.  This one is headed to California today!

Makeover Monday:3/18

~*~
With Easter right around the corner, the basket orders are still rolling in.  Two years ago I made a green and white Easter basket for a little girl in Tennessee.  Now she has a baby brother, and her mom wanted to go with green and white again.  It was important to make his different and more "masculine", however, so we decided on more of a bucket shape with a couple of stripes as well.
~*~
~*~
How sweet did this turn out?!  Part of what I love about working with fabric is never knowing 100% what the finished product will actually look like.  It's usually a wonderful surprise!
~*~
Two more baskets to go and 50 bale covers to cut before spring break.  I really needed today to not be a snow day, but at least now I have errand running company :)

Wednesday's Works

~*~
Just when I thought Easter basket orders were finished, two more came in yesterday!  This is the ball of fabric ready to be crocheted for the first one.  This particular basket will be the third I've made for this family- what an honor to have them keep coming back each time they have a new baby.
~*~
Not yet sure about fabric desires for basket order 2... hope to hear back from them soon.
~*~

~*~
Remember my red ombre basket?  Well, it will be on the sosorosey shelves soon as it did not work out for the customer who ordered it.  Now she would like two round coaster/pad/trivets instead.  We were going to go with fabric, but after looking without success in 4 different stores for basic red with black or gray flecks, I had to offer other options.  I worked this up to show her what red with black yarn looks like.  Fingers crossed that she likes it!
~*~

~*~
Lately when I am not making baskets, being a mom, hosting PTA ice cream socials, and collecting fabric for various custom orders, I'm working on my "for fun" robin's egg rug.  This yarn is soooooo soft, and while I will probably list it, I won't be sad if it doesn't sell.  ;)
~*~
What have you been working on lately?

Makeover Monday: 3/11

~*~
Thought you might enjoy seeing the Easter basket that I shared fabrics for last Monday.
This little lady is headed all the way to Texas :)
~*~

~*~
The lucky little girl's mom wanted to know if I could personalize the basket.  I don't sew or monogram, but I can add a charm.  This little frame with "Kyleigh Jean" is just tied with ribbon to the fabric bow.  An adorable touch- I love this idea!
~*~
Here's wishing you a lovely week!

Wednesday's Works

~*~
It's a busy time here at the *soso* world headquarters.  I've finished the base of the Easter basket...

~*~
finished an 18" by 70" cotton runner...

~*~
and started gathering white fabrics for 50 hay bales.  Yep, another fabulous outdoor wedding to outfit!

~*~
The best work for today, though, is entertaining Sophie on her first real snow day in quite awhile.  It is pouring snow outside- a heavy, wet mixture that is keeping totals down, but that is excellent for making snowballs and bricks.  A fun time for this girl in the forest :)

Makeover Monday: 3/4

~*~
I'm squeaking in one more custom ruffled Easter basket!  My customer has chosen this soft flannel fabric as her main ruffle color.
 ~*~
~*~
The base will be made from this coordinating gingham to ensure that I have plenty of the other for lots of ruffles.
Hoping to have it finished this week... stay tuned!

Ombre

 ~*~
I had a special request in sosorosey for an upcycled catch all basket in red.  I shared several reds with my customer, and she decided she'd like a mix of shades.
~*~
~*~
I played with lots of different options for color placement, and decided to try my hand at making this one an ombre effect.
 ~*~
~*~
I started with my deepest cranberry red, circled up through brick, into cherry, and finally wound up with a faded chambray.
 ~*~
 ~*~
It looks so pretty from so many different angles.  I had wondered if my color efforts would be noticed, but that fear was allayed when Sophie saw the basket this morning.  Right away she commented on how cool it was that the colors went from light to dark like that.
~*~
~*~
Final measurements are about 9" wide and 4" high.  I like it so well, that I'm considering making a custom listing for the "ombre catch all".  What do you think?

Makeover Monday: 1/14

~*~
The first sosorosey Easter basket of 2013 has been ordered!  These 3 fabrics will combine to make a large (10.5" diameter, 6" deep) ruffled basket for someone's very special little granddaughter.  Stay tuned for photos of the finished project in the next week or so :)

Something New

~*~
I love to make my game night coasters and applique, so for ages I've wanted to try the pattern out with fabric.
~*~

 ~*~
I finally got around to doing it the other night, and I just couldn't stop!  I made these four hotpads while watching a movie on TV.
~*~
 ~*~
Each of these is made from a standard size pillowcase.  They measure about 7" across and are about a half inch thick.
~*~
~*~
I like that they provide good table protection, yet they are flexible and kind of dainty looking.  They are machine wash and dry, too.  I should have these up in sosorosey before the day is over.  $10 each makes them an easy choice for a hostess gift, and as always, custom orders are welcome!
~*~
What is next on your list of crafts to try or things to make?

Makeover Monday: 12/3

The fabric for the second large hanging storage basket has just enough bits of this mauve color to complement the first basket perfectly!
~*~
I really like the way the colors came together in this finished project.
~*~
~*~
And I really LOVE they way they look together!  They are all tagged up and ready to head off to NYC.
~*~
How is your week looking?  Mine?  Exciting!!  I have Sophie's holiday concert to look forward to tomorrow, and I'm selling at a little holiday craft fair on Wednesday night.  Well, I hope to be selling.  And on Friday I have a new refrigerator coming!  Woohooo!  It will be so nice to not have to walk out to the garage every time I need creamer for my coffee.
~*~
That's it for today, but come back tomorrow for Tuesday's treat- I have a couple of them :)

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
It seems I took a little impromptu blog vacation.  Sorry about that!  Some days you just can't fit everything in, right?
~*~
The treasure I'm celebrating today is a special order from a new customer in New york.  She spied this little hanging pod in sosorosey and asked if I could make two larger ones for her.  No problem!
~*~
~*~
This is the first finished bucket measuring in at a whopping 6" by 6".  I wonder what will be contained in this?  The second one will be the same size, done in a complementary pattern.  I'm anxious to get started on that one tonight.  Stay tuned :)

Makeover Monday: 11/19

~*~
I found this fun paisley tablecloth the other day, and knew the colors and pattern would look lovely as a crocheted *thing*.
~*~
~*~
I love it!  This basket is positively bursting with personality.  It's a large one, too- about 10" across and 4" tall.  A perfect fruit bowl for that eco~conscious person on your holiday list.

Makeover Monday: 10/22

 ~*~
I chose this little pink bowl as my makeover subject in honor of breast cancer awareness month.  I made her awhile ago and always thought she needed a little something extra to make her just perfect.
~*~
 ~*~
This scrap of fabric is from an old, stained, full-of-holes apron.
~*~

~*~
Awwww- a match made in crochet heaven :)

Makeover Monday (better late than never)

~*~
I almost used these two pillowcases for my Craft Challenge project.  We've got honey gold, pink flambe, titanium and rhapsody represented.  The fabric itself is unbelievably soft- like the smoothest flannel, but not flannel.
~*~
~*~
I decided that a coaster would best enhance the muted shades.  If you look closely, the delicate pattern can be seen peeking out from some of the stitches, too.  This would be perfect for a coastal cottage table!

Candy Corn Bowl

~*~
Well, the X-Large long sleeved tee yielded a good amount of fabric!  Enough to create a basket large enough to contain candy corn for the whole office- for a week.  It is 5" wide and 5" high.  The colors are so perfect for the fall season!  Now if I can just get her listed in time to find a new home for Halloween...

Makeover Monday: 10/1

~*~
Happy October!  I'm not sure how many people would see this extra large, extra bright tie-dyed tee on the thrift rack and give a little squeal of delight.  I sure did, though!  It's so very *candy corn*, isn't it?  I cannot wait to dig my claws, scissors and hook into this tonight.  Stay tuned to see the results tomorrow :)
