Still Here

~*~
I can't believe I haven't posted in a week!  And I don't really even have a makeover to show.  Oh well, I'm here now and at least I have something to share.
~*~

~*~
I finished this custom rug order last night.  It's a mix of variegated and solid yarn, and the overall result is one of scattery neutrals.  It is heading off to NY today to be a Mother's Day gift this weekend :)

Wednesday's Works

~*~
Just when I thought Easter basket orders were finished, two more came in yesterday!  This is the ball of fabric ready to be crocheted for the first one.  This particular basket will be the third I've made for this family- what an honor to have them keep coming back each time they have a new baby.
~*~
Not yet sure about fabric desires for basket order 2... hope to hear back from them soon.
~*~

~*~
Remember my red ombre basket?  Well, it will be on the sosorosey shelves soon as it did not work out for the customer who ordered it.  Now she would like two round coaster/pad/trivets instead.  We were going to go with fabric, but after looking without success in 4 different stores for basic red with black or gray flecks, I had to offer other options.  I worked this up to show her what red with black yarn looks like.  Fingers crossed that she likes it!
~*~

~*~
Lately when I am not making baskets, being a mom, hosting PTA ice cream socials, and collecting fabric for various custom orders, I'm working on my "for fun" robin's egg rug.  This yarn is soooooo soft, and while I will probably list it, I won't be sad if it doesn't sell.  ;)

Wednesday's Works

~*~
It's a busy time here at the *soso* world headquarters.  I've finished the base of the Easter basket...

~*~
finished an 18" by 70" cotton runner...

~*~
and started gathering white fabrics for 50 hay bales.  Yep, another fabulous outdoor wedding to outfit!

~*~
The best work for today, though, is entertaining Sophie on her first real snow day in quite awhile.  It is pouring snow outside- a heavy, wet mixture that is keeping totals down, but that is excellent for making snowballs and bricks.  A fun time for this girl in the forest :)

Wednesday's Works

~*~
Still growing!  I've made lots of progress on my big rug over the last week- she is now more than 2/3 complete.  Her latest measurements are 50" across and 72" long.  That's 37" longer than last week at this time, and there are only 34" to go.  Barring any unusual circumstance, I will have the final shots to share with you next Wednesday.  Yippee!

Wednesday's Works

~*~
Happy Hump Day!  I have begun my latest custom rug order, and I'm so excited about this one.  It will be my largest cotton yarn rug to date- measuring 50" by 106" when complete.  This is what I have so far: 50" by 10".  Just a *little* bit more to go.  You'll probably get to see this in Wednesday posts for at least a couple of weeks.
~*~
~*~
Another cat hat - this one bound for Cooper, a furry redhead in Michigan.
~*~
~*~
Last cat hat for awhile- this one headed just down the highway to be shared by Lulu and Larry in Warrenton, VA.
~*~
Besides the crocheting, Sophie and I have been working on her class Valentines and a bulletin board at the school.  I have revamped a couple of charm packs for sosovintage, and am finally getting some of my new vintage towel pile photographed and listed.   Busy, busy!

Rug In Black

After I posted pics of my jute mat, I had someone express interest in a black version.  OK, fine- my MOM expressed interest.  She counts- believe me, she's one of my all-time best customers!
~*~
In any case, here is the rug in black yarn.  Three strands of soft, specialty acrylic known for its washability, durability and lasting beauty.  She is almost 2 feet wide by 40" long.  All yours if you like her, Mama.  No pressure if it isn't what you were looking for... I can always pop her in sosorosey for someone else to love :)
~*~
PS- this IS a true black black even though it has a brownish tinge in the photos.  We have a stormy day today, and even my fancy photo light can't work miracles with this gloomy lighting.

Tah Dah Tuesday

~*~
I finished something!!  I finished my make-do rug!!  She is a whopping 33" across- not a small girl.  I really like the pink progression throughout the project- kind of a sosorosey ombre effect.  Every single fabric used here, with the exception of the darkest pink around the edge, was repurposed from another repurposed project.  Say THAT three times fast.  Oh, and in case you didn't hear me the first time-  I finished something!! (skips off to enjoy this very rare feeling...}

WIP Wednesday

~*~
I'm still working away on my bright cotton rug!  Thanks to Victoria, who mentioned that this would make a nice poolside mat, I have been calling her "Cabana".  I really duded her up with the rickrack striping in tangerine and raspberry.
~*~
~*~
Besides my rug, my other work in progress this week involves sorting, inspecting, and listing some of the many vintage sewing patterns that I've been accumulating.  I love these stylin' ladies!
~*~
~*~
And seriously!  If I looked this fashionable in a housecoat I might just wear one all the time.  I have plenty more where these two came from, so I'd better get busy and start counting pattern pieces.  Listing patterns is kind of labor intensive for me because I don't sew- there's nothing intuitive about all of those delicate pieces.  I'm hoping I will get faster as I move along.
~*~
I have a question for you sewing people.  I hear that it is possible to adjust any pattern for sizing- that you aren't limited by the size on the package.  I've seen tutorials for this on the web (like HERE and HERE), and have often wondered if people do this often and/or successfully.  Do you have experience in this area?   Please leave a comment!

WIP Wednesday

 ~*~
I finished my hay bale cover order last night!  They've been double checked for size and "perfection", folded, and wrapped into color coordinated groups.   Now they are ready to fly off to Massachusetts.  Safe travels, big bundle!
~*~
~*~
After all of that wedding work, it was a treat to curl up on the couch last night and start the rug order I talked about on Monday.  With Deadliest Catch on the TV for company.  When finished it will be 14" by 28".  Here it is at 14" by about 6".
~*~
~*~
My customer decided on the off white & brown mix combined with the variegated dark browns.  It has a *tweedy* look that she really likes.
~*~
And yourself?  What works do you have in progress today?

WIP Wednesday

I really love to see photos of what other people are working on, so I thought I'd share my WIP (work in progress) with you!
~*~
I've been working on this neutral round rug since before Easter.  Very off and on, though.  It measures almost two and a half feet in diameter as of last night.  I have a special idea in mind for this one, and I'm hoping I have the patience to get her to at least 4 feet across.  Wish me luck!
~*~
What crafty thing do you have going on these days?

Makeover Monday: 10/3

It's been a loooong time since I started a big crochet project just for the heck of it.  Poking around in my stash, though, I found all these sheets that were just too pretty to sit around waiting for "someday".
~*~
After I got started, I realized I needed more fabric... so I added these two lovelies to the mix.
~*~
Voila!  This fun rug is about halfway finished.  It should measure about 3 feet by 4 feet when it is all said and done.  I'm looking forward to seeing her all laid out for a photo shoot in a week or so :)
~*~
Welcome to a new week!  I got my flu shot and a TB test today.  I need the TB test because I am going through the rehiring process with my old school system.  Not back to teaching, but working for human resources as a collaborator for teachers who are in need of support.  The hours are flexible and the pay is good, so woohoo!  Other than that, this week I have a coffee date with another mom and I am volunteering at Sophie's school for the kindergarten hearing and vision screenings.  What are your big plans for the near future?  If you haven't already done it, don't forget to leave your comment for the Price is Right game (see post below)!

My Ship{ment} Came In

The shipment of yarn that I needed to finish this rug came in last week! This is the same stitch as the mid-century rug I shared with you the other day, but when the solid colors are striped this way it has a whole different look. The entire reason I was drawn to this rug pattern in the first place was that the ziggy zaggy stripes reminded me of ricrac. So, this rug will be known as the Rosey RicRac Rug. Say that three times fast!!
~*~
Hope you are having a splendiferous weekend. be sure to come back tomorrow for.....
~*~
....wait for it.....

We haven't played in so long, and I have a serious haul to share :)

Mid-Century Rug

This is NOT the rug I should have been making over the last several days, but it is a rug that I am just SO excited about that I had to share it with you!
~*~
At a favorite antique mall last fall, I found an amazing crochet rug pattern book from 1952! In my "spare time", I have been working on tweaking my favorite "recipe", and here is the result. This stitch, worked with a double strand of worsted cotton, makes such a luxurious place to rest your toes.
~*~ This is actually the second rug that I started from this derived pattern; my first is even more exciting! I ran out of a yarn that is apparently no longer sold anywhere around me, though, so I am waiting on a shipment in order to finish that one. Yes, I have kicked myself several times for that blunder.
~*~
I LOVE that this rug can be made to order in any length or width, an endless combination of colors, with or without fringe, etc. This particular one is about 3 feet long and 16" wide. It is perfect to use by the tub or kitchen sink- ultra absorbent and washer/dryer friendly. I can picture an extra long one as a hallway runner, or an extra wide one on a sunporch or in a nursery. Oh, how I love cotton!
~*~
Look for this one is sosorosey today- she's ready to ship!
