Makeover Monday: 4/29

~*~
I started this pretty neutral rag rug with the idea of making her 5 feet across.  This was months ago.  Then I got sidetracked, and she sat and sat.  Unfinished and unhappy :(
~*~

~*~
I picked her up again this weekend and decided she deserved to be finished- even if she wasn't going to grow as large as I had hoped.  Her "done" size is 32" across, and she seems delighted.  She's ready to leave the nest!

Tah Dah Tuesday

~*~
I finished something!!  I finished my make-do rug!!  She is a whopping 33" across- not a small girl.  I really like the pink progression throughout the project- kind of a sosorosey ombre effect.  Every single fabric used here, with the exception of the darkest pink around the edge, was repurposed from another repurposed project.  Say THAT three times fast.  Oh, and in case you didn't hear me the first time-  I finished something!! (skips off to enjoy this very rare feeling...}

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
When you feel like crocheting with fabric, and don't have the time or inclination to cut the strips, it's a wonderful thing to have the remnants of projects past laying around.  The 6 fabrics I've put in this rug so far were already cut and ready to go!  I am going to try to keep going with my ready-balled material until this rug is finished.  I may break down and have to cut something for the final rounds, though.  I'm calling this my "make do" rug :)

WIP Wednesday

I really love to see photos of what other people are working on, so I thought I'd share my WIP (work in progress) with you!
~*~
I've been working on this neutral round rug since before Easter.  Very off and on, though.  It measures almost two and a half feet in diameter as of last night.  I have a special idea in mind for this one, and I'm hoping I have the patience to get her to at least 4 feet across.  Wish me luck!

What crafty thing do you have going on these days?

Makeover Monday: 3/19

I have had this vintage sheet fabric for sale in sosovintage for quite awhile, and I've been in love with it since I found it.  I think the color combination is so fresh and modern- a unique take on a relatively neutral palette.
So, when I came across 2 full sets of these sheets at my favorite thrift, my heart did a pitter patter.  BUT, knowing I already had some of this, I was reasonable and left them behind for someone else.  And for 3 weeks there they sat.  Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore!  I snapped them up and made...
~*~
... this beautiful round rag rug!  The colors blend in such an amazingly sublime way, and the four sheets I used yielded a good-sized 27" diameter mat.  Look for it in sosorosey soon!
~*~
I have bills to attend to this week, and a meeting with the teacher I'm working with for my "other" job.  Ooh, and a haircut and highlight to look forward to on Saturday.  What do you have going on this week?

Makeover Monday:10/24

Happy Monday!  It's a fresh new work week, and I have a fresh new project keeping me busy.  A request for a 2.5 foot by 6 foot rag rug in sage, celery and rose gave me the chance to gather up this bundle of oh so shabby chic fabrics.
~*~
As I was shopping for fabrics and noticing how absolutely beautiful they looked together, it occurred to me to ask my customer if she'd like to take a chance and let me try something new.  Since the customer is my mom, she decided to trust my instincts and allow me to make her rag rug from the same midcentury pattern that I used for this cotton yarn rug.
~*~
Here she is so far, one fourth finished at 30" wide and 18" long.
~*~
~*~
And a closeup of the texture.  I have been searching for a way to give my rugs an extra special touch, and I think maybe I've found it.  I really like the softness of the weave and the way the colors blend without a distinct striped effect.  Fingers crossed that Mom loves it, too :)

Ready to Rug

When setting out to make a custom rag rug for someone, the first step is gathering fabrics in the desired color family. Once the fabrics are all washed and approved, the next step is trimming them of all hems and selvage and dividing the pieces into sections. The number of sections is based loosely on the size of the rug and the overall "look" one is going for. After that, the different fabrics in each section need to be put in order of appearance. Only when all of these things are accomplished am I ready to cut the fabric into strips and actually crochet the piece. That's where I am now with the 15 fabrics pictured here- ready to rug! Let the fun begin!

Makeover Monday: 10/25

I had to do a minor change on the rug fabric- the one that had a more orange-y brown was switched up with this berry floral.
~*~
This smaller rug is now finished! She measures about 16" by 33". Now I'm ready to get started on her big sister.

Makeover Monday: 4/26

I started with a rug that I made a few weeks ago... It needed a little something.
~*~
This bright, rusty-orange, tie-dyed, jersey knit sheet was just what the rug doctor ordered!
~*~
Now THAT is a finished rug... it kind of reminds me of a tranquil koi pond.
~*~
Happy Monday, friends! What's on your agenda for the week?
So far for me it's just getting ready for Mother's Day, making an eye doctor appointment, and cleaning out the guest room closet. Maybe a trip to Ikea. I know, it's an exciting life that I lead!

Happy Housewarming

One of my best Etsy friends (does that make her a betsy instead of a besty?) just realized her dream of owning a home! I wanted to make her something special to celebrate, so I started scurrying around finding fabrics as soon as I found out her "colors".
~*~She is decorating with earth tones in her kitchen and dining area; chocolate, sage, paprika, olive, off-white, and the like.
~*~ Here is the rug that will go in front of her kitchen sink! If you look very closely maybe you'll see all the hugs hidden inside. I hear they help with dishes ;)

Makeover Monday: 11/8

For this week's project, I started with a gorgeous, recently thrifted set of vintage Cannon Royal Family sheets.
~*~

~*~
And I came up with a new pattern for a half-moon rug! This one is super cushy and will last years and years. Fits perfectly in front of a sink or a door- it measures 34" across and is 15" at its widest point. Over half an inch thick, too!
~*~

I need to take a few more photos, but look for it in my shop this week. Price tag: $45. Once this sweetie has been snatched up, I'll offer a custom half-moon rug option- you pick the color!
~*~

Happy Monday, everyone :)
