July 4th Breakfast

~*~
Clearly I am not going to be sought after as a food photographer, but you get the idea.  Angel food cake with strawberries, blueberries and coconut shavings.  Whipped cream was offered and declined, strangely enough.  It's so fun to have a special red, white and blue breakfast to start the holiday!
~*~
I got the idea for this one from a magazine at the dentist's office yesterday.  Sophie is still in the *no-cavity* club, and I got to be one of those people that surreptitiously rips out recipes.  Well, I thought I was being cool about it, until Sophie asked (rather loudly), "Mom, why are you tearing that magazine?!"  Doh.

Makeover Monday: 4th of July edition

Before: Sophie and I baked 2 dozen devil's food cupcakes.
*Note my fabulous new Hazel Atlas ruffle dish underneath :)
~*~
During: After making *red*, white and blue frosting, the decorating commenced.  Despite the poor lighting, I think you can tell that this is a child about to burst with excitement.  It's bittersweet to be 5 and surrounded by chocolate and frosting!

Ta-dah!

Just kidding.  These were found HERE.

After: The REAL 4th of July cupcakes!  Yes, from yesterday until today we have managed to eat 8 cupcakes.  EIGHT CUPCAKES!  In our defense, they are small and best eaten fresh :)

Happy Independence Day to all of my American friends, and happy Monday to my International peeps.  Whatever you all do today, I hope you truly enjoy your freedom!!

Break Out the Accordion

And the horn, too! It's time to celebrate the freedom to play any old instrument you want. Or none at all! Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans, and happy overall independence to my European friends.

Love the pups? They'll be in sosovintage one day soon!

Makeover Monday: 6/28

In honor of our upcoming Independence Day, I chose this lovely vintage bedsheet in spectacular red, white and blues.

The texture produced by the patterns in this fabric is just phenomenal. I love that it's a unique twist with traditional colors.

Happy Monday! Do you have any exciting plans for this week? Do tell!

Makeover Monday 5/17

I recently sent a few sets of my yarn and string stars to a person who plans to use them for 4th of July decorating. That got the old wheels turning, and I thought "Aha! Maybe I should do a similar set in fabric!" These are the materials I chose...

... and these are the stars they've become. I'll dub them *freedom stars* and list them in time for Memorial Day. Besides being hung as a group for a patriotic, primitive look, they can also easily be attached to a grapevine wreath for a special holiday door decoration.

~*~

Happy Monday! Welcome to the new members of the "group"- I'm so glad you are here :)

What do you have happening this week? My calendar *seems* relatively clear... for me this typically means that I have forgotten to write something (or a few somethings) down. Here's hoping I remember what's going on before it's too late! O_O
