Wednesday's Works

Tonight is the big night! My second ever craft show! It's taken me three years to get over the trauma of the last one. Just kidding- mostly. It wasn't bad, but I had a LOT of anxiety leading up to it. This time, the stress has been lessened by two things- one, this isn't my first time, and two, Sophie is super gung ho to help me. Things are always less scary when you have someone you love beside you.
~*~
So, I've been busy this week filling my little card holder...
~*~
 ...arranging and tagging items...
~*~
...making cute little signs and decorating little trees...
~*~
... and making stars.  LOTS of stars!
~*~
These photos were taken of my mock set up in the living room.  I will take pictures of the actual set up tonight and give you a full report tomorrow!  Have a happy day!

Wednesday's Works

Lest you think that all I do these days is sit around making wreaths, let me tell you, there's been plenty of star making as well! I finished my 50 star wholesale order and sent them off to Alabama yesterday.  They will be sold as part of a new collaboration with this adorable website: http://nightowlpapergoods.com
~*~

~*~
While I was searching for some supply or another, I came across some of the primitive rag balls that I had set aside last year.  The stars made from them really showcase the gorgeous colors and feedsack fabrics, and I'm excited to be able to offer these in sosorosey again.
~*~

 ~*~
A "baby star" customer from 2010 came back for another one for their new baby girl!
~*~
~*~
And the guidance counselor at Sophie's school just had a little boy, so this will be sent off to her as she enjoys her maternity leave.
~*~
I finished up my 5 potholder order this week, too.  So now maybe, just maybe, I can bring my 2012 ornament idea to life.  Stay tuned for that - it's gonna be a cute one if I can work out the details!  Enough about me- what have you been working on this week?

Wednesday's Works

~*~
I've been fortunate to have a few custom orders rolling in to sosorosey!  This jute wine bag was specially made to accommodate a large bottle of wine.
~*~

 ~*~
I made some stars for a customer from her baby's blanket back in 2010, and she recently came back for more- for the new baby!  She sent me two bamboo receiving blankets, and these 6 stars are the result.  I had never worked with bamboo fabric- it worked up much like gauzy cotton, with a slight fray to the edges.  Super soft!
~*~
~*~
My most important work today involves being a mother to my little batling.  She got to dress up for her class party, and I led the "ghost making" station.  Good fun, and now we're preparing for some trick or treating around the neighborhood.  Woohoo!   Happy Halloween!

Wednesday's Works

~*~
Not too terribly much going on around here this week.  I did find this pretty twilight colored sparkly yarn, though.  It's perfect for a new set of sosorosey Christmas ornaments!

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
I get to go to a wedding in April!  Well, part of me does, anyway.  I'm in the process of making 120 bright yellow stars to be given as favors at a spring wedding in Massachusetts.  Fingers are crossed for a photo of them at the big event :)

Pucker Up

Here's how the Martha sour cherry cotton hemp works up in star form.  These are sure to brighten up any Christmas tree or package!

Makeover Monday: 6/27

I've been seeing aLOT of red, white and blue front pages on Etsy lately.  Last year I made a couple sets of Independence Day stars in the more primitive, rustic tones.  This time, I decided to try a more modern take by using a bright red gingham and a turquoise blue.
~*~
Very festive!  Here's hoping they still have a chance to brighten up someone else's home for the 4th!
~*~
Happy Monday!  This week I am looking forward to finishing a snuggler for a returning customer- she had a boy over 2 years ago, and is expecting a girl next month.  Sophie has Construction Camp at her old school this week for 3 hours a day, and we have a fun play date set up for Wednesday.  Great Italian food may be in my future, too, as I have a potential dinner date with a college girlfriend on Thursday night.  Next week Sophie has no camp, so we are preparing the fishing poles for some ladies days at the river.  I'll take photos if, I mean when, we catch the big ones.  What's on your agenda this last week of June?

Surprise!

I got to wondering the other day about all of those stars I made for the Hanes catalog. So, I decided to go to the Hanes website and see if I could see the catalog online. Look what I saw when I went to hanes.com!!! Those are my stars on that tree! What a cool feeling. If you click on the photo, it should take you to their website. You can then click on the little video and see more of the tree. Forget the underwear, lol- look at the tree!!!

Don't Whine....Twine!

I've been in full-on *feel sorry for myself* mode the last two days. My dental visit on Tuesday has resulted in two more future visits, the prospect of a great deal of pain and suffering, and many hundreds of dollars out the window.
~*~

In order to keep my mind off of the tooth nightmare at hand, I've been happily playing with my new bold, eco-friendly baker's twine purchased from The Twinery. Clicking on the logo above will bring you straight to their website...but be careful- this twine is GORGEOUS! They shipped very quickly, the twine is just as beautiful in person, and they ship internationally, too.
~*~
I purchased the Caribbean, Peapod, Pink Sorbet, and Maraschino. These gift tags will be part of the holiday goodies for sale in sosorosey. I'm thinking of offering them as a set of 4, but I also wonder about the idea of having a listing for individual tags as well. Do you think someone might want to purchase just one special tag? Your feedback is very appreciated!

A Little Something Sweet

It's a star...
~*~

It's a garland...
~*~

It's a {star}land!
Too corny? Or just the right amount of corn?
~*~
This is the shorter of these that I have made so far. It's made of pink baker's twine and tea dyed cotton string. The other one is at least twice as long, featuring white, red, and jute. I had a difficult time getting decent photos of this one today... maybe some photo fairies will come in tonight and work on arranging the longer one for me! Stay tuned :)

Makeover Monday: 8/9

My sweet friend Karen over at VintageStation recently *came into* some baker's twine. When I told her how much I loved it, she just up and sent me some to play with! How's that for a fine specimen of humanity?
~*~

Here are the stars I made from the twine! The smallest one here is crocheted from the baker's twine alone, and the larger ones are mixed with cotton string. They remind me of penny candy bouncing around a paper bag, and baked treats nestled inside a wrapped kraft box.

~*~

How is your week looking? I can't believe summer is winding down so quickly. While July felt like it would never end, August is the opposite so far. We get to celebrate my mom's birthday this week, but other than that there's nothing looming for the next several days. I like that!

It's In the Stars

I had a recent request for stars in multiple sizes. Why didn't this idea ever occur to me before? I worked and reworked my patterns for the medium and large to get them just right, and I love the way they came out. This will provide some fun versatility to the sets I will be offering for the holidays this year. The small one is 3.5" across, and the large is a whopping 6.5" from point to point. These were worked with a double strand of cotton to give them added substance and a more sturdy appeal. Three down, one hundred and seven more to go! I SO wish I could tell you where these stars were going, but I'll have to keep that secret for a bit longer :)

Makeover Monday 5/17

I recently sent a few sets of my yarn and string stars to a person who plans to use them for 4th of July decorating. That got the old wheels turning, and I thought "Aha! Maybe I should do a similar set in fabric!" These are the materials I chose...
~*~

... and these are the stars they've become. I'll dub them *freedom stars* and list them in time for Memorial Day. Besides being hung as a group for a patriotic, primitive look, they can also easily be attached to a grapevine wreath for a special holiday door decoration.

~*~

Happy Monday! Welcome to the new members of the "group"- I'm so glad you are here :)

~*~

What do you have happening this week? My calendar *seems* relatively clear... for me this typically means that I have forgotten to write something (or a few somethings) down. Here's hoping I remember what's going on before it's too late! O_O

Starry Rainbow

Just wanted to share a couple of photos of the 40 stars I made for a good friend to give out with her Etsy packages- 2 each of 20 different colors! Those are the teeny, subtle version of my sosorosey *paper bag tags* on each one.

~*~

As I was taking photos, I thought these could be super cute for wedding, baby shower, or party favors. I could do them in any color(s) imaginable! And, instead of sosorosey tags, they could be personalized with names, dates, or a special quote or message.
~*~
What do you think of that idea?

Makeover Monday: 11/30

I started with an ordinary ball of cotton string...
~*~ ...threw in some festive metallic crochet thread...
~*~

...and voila! Natural feeling and sassy looking at the same time, these new stars measure 3.25" across. Aren't they fun? They will be sold in sets of 3 in sosorosey very soon!
~*~
Happy Monday!
