Makeover Monday: 10/17

I found this pretty patchworky pillowcase while thrifting the other day, and couldn't wait to see how all of the colors would come together in a crocheted bowl.
~*~
I wish there was more of the red showing, but other than that, I really like the subtle dreaminess of this blend.

How was your weekend?  We had perfect fall weather, so we were able to rally and get down to the neighborhood Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday night.  They did it up big this year, complete with a German band and Bavarian pretzels.  There was loads of other food, too- sausages and cabbage and potatoes, every appetizer under the sun, side dishes, and super yummy desserts.  German bottled beer and a keg, too.  There was a pinata for the kids and then a big bonfire in the fire pit for whoever was still around.  We met some new neighbors and hung out with old friends, while Sophie played kickball and did crafts with the other kids.

This week I'll be going to my first meeting for the "real" job, and doing lots of volunteering at Sophie's school for the book fair.  How about you?  What's on your agenda?  Hope you have a fantastic week!

Makeover Monday: 5/2

I went through a phase of collecting small antique glass bottles about 20 years ago.  I amassed about two dozen, and they have been staring at me ever since, begging for a purpose.
~*~
This weekend I rediscovered one of my very favorite cotton yarns, purchased at one of those super swanky, ultra expensive yarn shops.  I love this yarn so much- the softness, the texture, the way it works up- that I haven't even wanted to use it.
~*~
I decided to part with some of the cotton and some of the bottles, though, and I'm pleased with the result!  These little flower lariats also serve as hooks so that the bottle can be hung on a suction cup on a window and used as a vase.  An easy way to bring a little color and fun to any room :)

Happy Monday and happy May!  Let's see, this week I am finalizing Mother's Day gifts and going on a petting zoo field trip (Wednesday- fingers crossed for a nice day).  I'll be sending good thoughts and well wishes up to Massachusetts on Thursday as my father-in-law undergoes a surgical procedure.  Friday I've been invited to my daughter's class for a special Mother's Day presentation in the afternoon.  She is SO excited, and I can't wait to hear her sing her song and present her gift.  I'm not supposed to know those last two things, but alas, my child takes after her father in secret keeping.  No matter, I will still be VERY surprised and grateful.  Here's wishing you all a sunny, happy week :)

Makeover Monday: 9/13

Christmas items and colors have been the focus lately, so I went rooting through my fabric stash with an eye toward autumn.
~*~
A large, vibrant table coaster is born- ready to set the stage for a fall centerpiece display!

Happy beginning of the week! This will be Sophie's first full week of school. While she is busy learning and playing and growing, I will be busy working on my shops and craft clutter. I have the blue custom rug to finish, and a new rug order to gather fabrics for. Tuesday will be taken up (read: ruined) with a visit to the dentist and I need to make my mammogram appointment soon, too. Ah, the joys of getting older! What's on your to-do list for the week?

Makeover Monday: 8/9

My sweet friend Karen over at VintageStation recently *came into* some baker's twine. When I told her how much I loved it, she just up and sent me some to play with! How's that for a fine specimen of humanity?
~*~

Here are the stars I made from the twine! The smallest one here is crocheted from the baker's twine alone, and the larger ones are mixed with cotton string. They remind me of penny candy bouncing around a paper bag, and baked treats nestled inside a wrapped kraft box.

How is your week looking? I can't believe summer is winding down so quickly. While July felt like it would never end, August is the opposite so far. We get to celebrate my mom's birthday this week, but other than that there's nothing looming for the next several days. I like that!

Makeover Monday: 4/12

Happy Monday! For today's makeover, I chose this bright little bug fabric. I originally thought they were ladybugs, but then I realized they have stripes and not spots! Oh well- they look like friendly sorts, anyway.
~*~Since my first listed wallflower is on its way to Portugal (yay! a new country for my list!), I needed to make a new one to replace it in my shop.
~*~I tried this photo with the flower on the fabric. I *think* I like it...does it look too busy to you for my first listing photo?
~*~I hope your week is off to a splendiferous start! I have loads of photos to take, listings to create, and a rug to start this week. Also have to get an oil change, and get ready for the big girl bed coming on Friday. My baby isn't a baby anymore- wah!!!!
~*~
How about you- what's on your agenda for the week?
