Kristine's Mix

Hot pink, lime green and royal purple.  You called it, Kristine- this is a lovely mix indeed!  I have been hard at work making new lacy mum combos.  Thanks to all for the suggestions!  You should see the ones you thought up in sosorosey at some point- if you don't, it's because I haven't found just the right shade of a certain color.  I'm not giving up, though!

Crochet Applique

I've dabbled in adding supplies to sosorosey in the past, but I didn't stick with it.  Something else came up, I got busy, yada yada yada.  In my quest to ready the shop for autumn, however, I have been playing around with different color combinations of my new "lacey mum" flowers.

These sweeties come in small, medium and large, and will be sold in sets of 9 (3 of each size) for $10.

Stack them to make a brooch, add a hairclip or headband for a one-of-a-kind hair accessory, sew them to totes, tee shirts, jeans, use them in scrapbooks, make your own garland.... the possibilities are endless.  A perfect gift for the do-it-yourself craft queen!  Or king.

Look for these and other color combinations in sosorosey soon.  Can you think of other uses or suggest a special color combo?  Please leave a comment!

Makeover Monday: 5/2

I went through a phase of collecting small antique glass bottles about 20 years ago.  I amassed about two dozen, and they have been staring at me ever since, begging for a purpose.
~*~
This weekend I rediscovered one of my very favorite cotton yarns, purchased at one of those super swanky, ultra expensive yarn shops.  I love this yarn so much- the softness, the texture, the way it works up- that I haven't even wanted to use it.
~*~
I decided to part with some of the cotton and some of the bottles, though, and I'm pleased with the result!  These little flower lariats also serve as hooks so that the bottle can be hung on a suction cup on a window and used as a vase.  An easy way to bring a little color and fun to any room :)

Happy Monday and happy May!  Let's see, this week I am finalizing Mother's Day gifts and going on a petting zoo field trip (Wednesday- fingers crossed for a nice day).  I'll be sending good thoughts and well wishes up to Massachusetts on Thursday as my father-in-law undergoes a surgical procedure.  Friday I've been invited to my daughter's class for a special Mother's Day presentation in the afternoon.  She is SO excited, and I can't wait to hear her sing her song and present her gift.  I'm not supposed to know those last two things, but alas, my child takes after her father in secret keeping.  No matter, I will still be VERY surprised and grateful.  Here's wishing you all a sunny, happy week :)

Hmmmm...

What in the world could it be? Leave your best guess in the comments if you aren't "posied out" by now. I'll be back this evening with the reveal!

Makeover Monday: 6/14

I started with this gorgeous Amy Butler-esque sheet, and turned it into...
~*~

... a nice big bowl AND...

~*~

...a wallflower coaster!!
Yay for queen size sheets!!

Happy Monday! This week is my daughter's first week of "no school" summer. We will be heading to cartoon cuts for a hair trim, Target for shorts, and to the playground as much as possible. I have to finish an upcycled snuggler, at least 1 more bowl and flower for the boutique, and clean my house. The boutique appointment is on Thursday... if all goes well, I'll be back here to announce the local venue for sosorosey goods. What do you have on tap for this week?

Makeover Monday: 5/24

For this week's creation, I started with some plain cotton string from the hardware store.
~*~
I added a smidgen of *magic dye dust*...
~*~
... and finished off with a few glass pearls and a gorgeous vintage flannel.
~*~

Voila! A truly rosy rose...
~*~

...brooch. Since my applique flowers are still prettying up the shelves in sosorosey, I thought I'd see if ready made brooches in hand-dyed cotton would stir up any excitement. I know they make ME do a little dance!
~*~
This is my daughter's last week at her Tuesday Thursday playschool. I also plan to get my eyebrows done and my hair cut within the next week. I'll be 42 in two weeks, and I'd rather look my best when that day rolls around, lol. Yep, that's the extent of my social calendar at this point. What do YOU have going on this week?

Hey! You Crochet! Do You Think...

...you could fix this for me??
~*~

My sister-in-law found a gorgeous poncho for her 2 year old at a consignment store. The only trouble was that once she got it home, she realized it was unraveling at the neck!! When we went to MA for Easter, she asked me if I could mend it. I have heard that jewelry peeps get asked to fix things all the time, but no one had ever asked this of me before. I said I would do my best.
~*~
Here's what I came up with! I found the origin of the unravelling, restitched what I could, and knotted off securely. It looked OK, but it didn't look great, so I decided to make and add a beaded rosette corsage. I'm pretty sure it looks better now than it ever did before (sorry Gap).
But really, what can't be fixed with a flower?
