Memorial Day Weekend Colors

In honor of Memorial Day, I've poked around in my "need to list" goodies to find some patriotic~colored prizes for the shop.  Here are some of the things I found:
~*~
 ~*~
Super cool red on blue vintage bath towel.  Maker unknown- I've been calling it "tattoo".
~*~
 ~*~
Mid-century Ward & Ward skinny bowtie still on its card.  Love that swanky diamond pattern!
~*~
 ~*~
Bright, bold standard size pillowcase by Stevens Utica
~*~
 ~*~
Another red and blue vintage bath towel- this one's by the JC Penney line "Fashion Manor".
~*~
~*~
Twin sized Strawberry Shortcake ruffle bottom coverlet from 1980
~*~
Hope this weekend inspires us all to remember our loved ones who fought so hard, and to appreciate the freedoms we often take for granted.

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

This week's fabrics are of the more subtle variety.  They don't scream at you... just quietly assert themselves as special :)

~*~
So, the top fabric is cotton flannel, and the 2nd one down is actually 100% cotton as well.  The wispy pink flowers are so sweet in person, and the blue plaid would look especially awesome in a "boy quilt".
~*~
We've been deluged with rain the last several days.  I haven't forgotten my planter project... I'm so glad Saturday is still part of "this week" because that's the day I'm doing it.  Rain or shine.  It's Memorial Day weekend here in the states, and we'll be celebrating with my folks on Sunday.  Looking forward to a nice relaxing couple of days.  Wishing you and yours the same!
~*~
Oh, and GO PHILLIP!!  SO happy he won American Idol!!  One of my very favorite performances is HERE if you care to check out his wonderfulness ;)

Makeover Monday: 5/30 Memorial Day Edition

I've had this beautiful fabric in sosovintage for awhile with no takers.  So, I decided a bit of it would be just the thing for a Memorial Day makeover!
~*~
The red, white, and blue today is dedicated to my late Grandpa Copeland.  He joined the Navy at 17 and had his ship blown out from under him in Pearl Harbor.  He went on to fight in the Korean War, where he was a POW for 18 months.  He also fought in the Bay of Pigs and Vietnam.
~*~
I remember him as the man who would chase me around the coffee table tickling me until I couldn't breathe.  The man who would stop traffic for a fresh watermelon.  The man who loved (and fed) squirrels and seagulls, and who could grow vegetables in his sleep.  I miss you, Grandpa, and I remember you every day.

Makeover Monday 5/17

I recently sent a few sets of my yarn and string stars to a person who plans to use them for 4th of July decorating. That got the old wheels turning, and I thought "Aha! Maybe I should do a similar set in fabric!" These are the materials I chose...
~*~

... and these are the stars they've become. I'll dub them *freedom stars* and list them in time for Memorial Day. Besides being hung as a group for a patriotic, primitive look, they can also easily be attached to a grapevine wreath for a special holiday door decoration.

~*~

Happy Monday! Welcome to the new members of the "group"- I'm so glad you are here :)

What do you have happening this week? My calendar *seems* relatively clear... for me this typically means that I have forgotten to write something (or a few somethings) down. Here's hoping I remember what's going on before it's too late! O_O
