Thursday's Treasure

Today's treasure: custom orders.  I love them!  The jade bowl is working up fantastically- that ribbing really gives it some extra texture.  Ruffles will be coming next.

Does this yarn look familiar?  It's the same one I use for my original snuggle sacque.  A new customer from across the pond wanted a 25" by 35" blanket made instead of a snuggler... it came out so soft and light.  Any baby would love this blankie.  Heck, any adult would too :)

My newest project is for a custom lidded clutter keeper to match this fabric.  Aren't the colors dreamy?  I can't wait to get started on that one this weekend!

And last but not least, I'll have a big "reveal" on Saturday to show off a special set that I made for my sister-in-law as a gift for her friend's new baby.  It's purty darn precious, IIDSSM.  Not sure if that is a "common" texter shortcut.  Probably not- texters are more than likely too cool to say IIDSSM.  You know what it is, though- right?  Not to imply that you aren't cool...

Makeover Monday: 5/10

I started this project several weeks ago, with 6 skeins of this GORGEOUS merino blend yarn in "silver service". I quickly realized that 6 wouldn't be nearly enough, so I hightailed it back to Michael's for 6 more. All 12 were needed!

I made my mother a scarf for Christmas, but wanted to make her something special for Mother's Day that she could enjoy every day. I use only my own patterns for sosorosey projects, but I do enjoy the thrill of following a book pattern sometimes when I make gifts. I settled on this blanket for its delightfully delicate shape and design.

Here's the pamphlet book I found on an endcap at Michael's. The bed photo is what I saw in the book that helped me know this was "the one".

It started out just like a coaster or bowl, then quickly progressed to the clusters.

Once the middle medallion was completed, the rest was just row upon row (upon row upon row!) of double crochets.

This is folded over a few times, but the ends drape out to these points like flower petals. From the center to the longest part of the petal, the blanket measures 29"...so overall it's almost 5 feet across. Perfect snuggling size!

It isn't a true Mother's Day if you don't get a little teary. That happened when my mom said her new blanket made her think of her own mother whom she was sure was smiling down from heaven at the gift. Smiling because it was mom's mom who first taught me how to crochet all those decades ago. There were many gifts this Mother's Day- the most special was just being a mother alongside my mother for the day.

Something New, Something Blue

I had a special request from a new customer recently- to make a baby blanket for her son. He has literally loved his original one to pieces, and is in desperate need of a replacement.

The first stop after the snowstorm: the yarn store! I found this gorgeous soft baby blue that is perfect for the job (lapis by Bernat Satin).

~*~ My customer is leaving the design up to me, but she shared that she likes the puff or popcorn stitch. I dug out my stitch books, and came up with this as the design.

I'm about a third of the way finished with this blanket, and I'm loving the change of pace. It's a new yarn to work with, new stitches, a new project- just the cure for cabin fever. Well, OK. Maybe not a cure, but a decent Rx. With 10-20 more inches of snow predicted for the next 24 hours, I'll take any comfort I can get!
