Appliance Covers

I love the idea of a toaster cover.  I mean, who wants to look at a toaster?  I was so pleasantly surprised to find these new old stock linen covers at the thrift the other day!  These are the three prints I found, but I got a total of six covers.  SIX!
~*~
~*~
They all still have their original Parisian Prints stickers!  The top two are about 14" long, 7" deep and 6" wide.  The bottom one is 10" by 7.5" by 6".  Can you think of what you would do with them if you didn't use them for toasters?  Do you cover your appliances?

Wednesday's Work

~*~
Whew!  I tell you, it would be easier to tell you what I haven't been working on this week than what I have.  Or I guess I could just sum the whole week's work up in one word: Christmas!  I do love the hustle and bustle of the season, and the giving spirit that wells up in our hearts, but all of this shopping, wrapping, decorating, planning, cleaning, baking, etc. is enough to do me in sometimes.
~*~
When I get it all done, and I will!, I'm going to treat myself to making one of those adorable mason jar snow scenes that seem to be popping up everywhere.  I'll be using the gorgeous vintage bottle brush trees I picked up on my last antique mall spree!
~*~
How are you hanging in there with all of the holiday prep?

Daily Dose of Adorable

~*~
One of my most favorite finds ever!  This bespectacled bunny holding her bunny is absolutely precious, and just about as perfect as she can be.  Marked "Knickerbocker No. Hollywood Calif." on the back.  Don't think I can part with this one, folks!

Game runs through Tuesday the 24th, 5pm EST and is open to US and international players. The receipt and winner will be posted here: please be sure I know how to get in touch with you either through blog, website or email. Play nice and have fun!!
~*~
The Prize: The satisfaction of winning, AND $5 in "soso bucks" that can be applied toward any purchase in either of my shops. Can be saved and spent at a later time, up to one year. Can be combined with other wins or offers. Not redeemable for cash. Non-transferable.
~*~
The Stuff: This time the loot comes from my favorite thrift shop, non-sale day.  Prices here are relatively high for sheets and larger breakables.  Relatively low for small items.  They do not seem to charge more for *vintage*.  Here's what I walked out with this week:
~*~

 Chevron bedsheet
~*~
 pansy bath towel
~*~
 hand towel
~*~
 3 pillowcases
~*~
 Vera napkins
~*~
 More Vera napkins
~*~
Large yellow enamelware Georges Briard pot
~*~
These were all sold separately.  Japan donkey, Garfield small planter, box of curtain tieback pins, box of pink Gibson notecards, vintage Old Maid card game, handpainted diaper pin set
~*~
This was sold together in one of those famous bags.  Yes, I DID buy it for the FOXY patch.
~*~
A dozen "woven" plastic napkin rings
~*~
There you have it, folks!  A nice haul of goodies if I do say so myself.  Let the game begin!

Super Seventies

I found these gorgeous iconic 70s lithographs in the craft section at the thrift store.
~*~
They are all individually packaged, new old stock.
~*~
I have two different butterfly ones that measure 6.5" long and 5.5" wide.  There are three different, larger mushroom prints- these measure about 9" by 7".  The butterfly ones read "litho in USA".  The mushrooms are printed in W. Germany.
~*~
There were no prices on them, so I brought them up to the counter and asked the cost.  Fifty cents apiece.  Well, OK.  Ring me up!

Neumann Napkins

Just when you were saying to yourself, "Gosh, Jennie hasn't been prattling on about Vera so much lately"... here I am with a post of some awesomeness heading to sosovintage *vera soon*.
Heehee.
~*~
There are 5 of these red and green ferny pretties... can you see the little signature scattered throughout the fabric?
~*~
~*~
These colors are SO modern- a periwinkle grey with a gold grid and black border.  Gotta love that ladybug!  There are 6 of these.
~*~
All of these linen napkins are in excellent condition.  They were found on two separate thrift trips, and I've had them for quite awhile.  I wish I could say it was just because I haven't been able to part with them.  But it is more honest to say that it is because they were in that "things to iron" pile that I talked about last week!  In any case, they will be up for grabs soon, soon, soon :)

Changing it Up

For anyone who doesn't know, each member of Etsy has an avatar.  This is a small photo to represent the shop/buyer.
~*~
Some people use their facebook photos, some use a logo, some have a photo of something in their shop.  I like to do the latter in both of my shops, as it's a quick way for a person to see the kind of thing I sell when I post in the Etsy forums.  I change my avi seasonally or when the item pictured sells.  Or just when I feel like it!
~*~
My sosovintage avatar item sold the other day, and I need to replace it with something I have available.  Please help me choose one of the following:

#1 pink and aqua lamb

 #2 fawn couple
#3 big eyed girl
~*~
Which do you like best?
Please leave a comment with your # vote- I really appreciate your input!

Daily Dose of Cute

Who knew skunks could be so adorable? I love the way she looks like she's waiting for some affection, and he isn't quite sure what to do. Just like a man, lol.

~*~

This porcelain couple by Lefton *should* be found in sosovintage soon. I have a bit of a back log of things to do, so I may have to keep them all to myself for a few days :)

Thursday's Treasure

Yes that IS what you think it is! An orange enamelware pedestal egg cup! Before you shoot me thinking I was lucky enough to thrift this, sloooooooooow down. I treated myself to a walk through the closest antique mall the other day, and this is what I came out with. $7.50 felt a little steep- a real splurge. But I've never seen one like it. It makes me happy, and that's just priceless, right? What was your most recent "happy" purchase?

A Bit O History

History was my absolute, hands-down, least favorite subject in school. Even worse than math. I hated memorizing all of those dates, and I failed to see anything interesting or worthwhile in all of those droning lessons. Maybe I just didn't have good history teachers. In any case, my appreciation for some aspects of history has matured, and I have my love of vintage to thank for that!
~*~
A good example is this mid-century looking ashtray or dish that I found while thrifting last week. I fell in love with the shape and colors, and of course seeing that "67" piqued my interest. I brought it home, cranked up the ole google, and learned that Expo 67 was considered to be the most successful World's Fair of the 20th century. It was originally intended to be held in Moscow, but the Soviets cancelled and Montreal was awarded the gig in 1962. 62 Nations participated, and it set the single-day attendance record for a world's fair at 569,000 visitors.
{thank you, wikipedia}
~*~
This little remnant of Canadian and World's Fair history can be found in sosovintage soon!

A Vera Good Day

I went thrifting the other day looking for a particular item. But, of course, I took my time and poked through the entire store. I am so glad I did!
~*~ First I peeked in the area of "new and still boxed housewares and home decor items". I have never actually found anything of value in this section, but one never knows what one will find. On this day, I spied the Vera signature and lo and behold! A perfectly 70s vinyl tablecloth new in its package. Wow.
~*~
Next, I sauntered over to the sheet section. Holy moly! TWO sets of Vera twin sheets in this fantastic blue lily and tan leaves combo.
~*~
Finally, the icing on the cake from the towel section. Unbelievable pair of Vera bath towels in pristine condition.
~*~
It was a "Vera" good day to be a picker! hehehehehe

Doppleganger

I found the little guy on the right ages ago. Thought he was so adorable, I even did a blog post about him. I was convinced he was a cover for an egg. Silly me.
~*~
My friend Karen from VintageStation wrote to me one day saying she had found a chick/bird just like mine! She said hers came with a noise box inside... you know the cylindrical things with the holes in it that utters sounds when turned upside down? Her noise box didn't work though, so she didn't know what it actually "said".
~*~
As shocked as I was that she had found the same item, I was triple surprised when I found Little Miss Pink Bow on a recent thrift trip! She has a non-working noise box too. Poo. (hehe, too poo too poo. Oops- obviously spending too much time listening to five year old humor.)
~*~
I debated about whether to sell my friends separately or together, and I've decided to do neither. They just look too happy to have found each other, so I'm keeping them!

Thursday's Treasure

Behold the near perfect lazy susan set thrifted from the Goodwill this week!
~*~

The center strawberry dish was nowhere near the 4 side plates. I'm so glad I hunted around. The price was pretty high for these pieces compared to the usual Goodwill cost, but the awesome cashier helped me out a bit. On her own she thought that $2.96 per small side dish was too expensive, so she called the manager to confirm. The manager said it should be 96 cents per piece- so I saved $8. This set will be available in sosovintage today!

Daily Dose Of Cute

Okay, okay- I hear you. Perhaps he isn't *cute* in the conventional sense. More in the *face only a mother could love* sense. He still makes me smile with his grouchy owl face. We all feel this way from time to time don't we?

Thursday's Treasure

Yes, it's true! It's an earring tree! The lovely half-matte gold metal is ultra sturdy, and don't you love the *nature-hollywood regency-retro* vibe that it has going on? I should totally keep this, since my beautiful collection of earrings is housed in a dumb little cardboard box. I think I'd need a whole earring forest, though. The ones I hung here for the photo are some of my all time faves. Get your own right HERE!! So, do tell- do you stow or display your jewelry?

Thursday's Treasure

OMG- Industrial woodland! How gosh darned cool is this metal squirrel with walnut mold? I'm guessing it was for chocolate, but who knows? Maybe a candle? Or a toy? If you have any expertise in this area, I'd love to know more.

Thursday's Treasure: 5/27

This is what I saw hanging up in the thrift store. Not sure what possessed me to turn it over, but OMG- I'm so glad I did!!
~*~
Squeeeeeaaaaallll!!!! An unused Vera Neumann pot holder... it even has a sweet little orchid colored ladybug. Total treasure if I do say so myself.
