Thursday's Treasure

I found a clear bag filled with these miniature books at the thrift store.  They staple these bags shut, so while I could see what was inside, I couldn't really "see" what was there.  For 90 cents, I gambled.
~*~
~*~
Brought 'em home and how about that- all 12 are here, in perfect condition!  I'm a little confounded by these, though.  Need to do some research.  The copyright dates of the original stories are printed on the back covers of these, but it doesn't say anywhere when these actual little books were made.  I'm not parting with them anytime soon, though.  ;)

Personal Shopper

~*~
I've had the recent unique pleasure of becoming a personal shopper for one of Etsy's great talents, Emily over at EKRA.  As I well know, crocheting rag rugs takes a LOT of fabric, and the time spent finding the right colors is always longer than anyone would imagine.  Emily makes a LOT of rugs, but she happens to live in a small, somewhat thrift-store-challenged town.  From reading my blog, Emily knows my passion for thrifting and came up with a win-win idea for both of us.  I've really enjoyed thrifting with a special purpose when she "needs me", and I love to see the fabrics I send get made up into one-of-a-kind EKRA treasures.  And, as an added bonus, Emily is a super friendly and fun person to chat with, too!  Here's the latest batch of aquas and seafoams heading to Illinois.

Thursday's Treasure

It's always kind of a shock for me to see someone's collection being sold at a thrift store.  In the case of these angels, I even know who collected them!  Not personally, mind you.  But the collector carefully labelled each of these beauties with her own name and the year they were acquired.  I hope that wherever she is, Ms. Harman knows that these sweet girls are being lovingly cared for.  And that they will one day find new homes where they will be cherished.

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

I can't believe it's Friday already!  Where did this week go?  As usual, I spent some time browsing the op shops, and have some delicious fabric to share.  Faves from this week's thrifting include:
~*~
It doesn't get much better than this- aqua blue, stripes, dashes AND flower vine scrolls!
~*~
Here we've got flowers, stripes and dots going on- with a bit of retro flair thrown in for good measure!
~*~

I've had this one in the shop before and was thrilled to find it again.  Love the fiddleheads!
~*~

This one has only been available in charm packs before- now I have PLENTY to offer in whatever size you want!
~*~
Gorgeous COTTON flower power in pink, orange, aqua and avocado.
~*~

Ooh, I do love some polka dots!  What pretty little bundles of posies, too.
~*~
It is supposed to be triple digit hot and humid here this weekend.  You can bet I'll be doing everything I can to remain indoors.  Hope the weather is more reasonable where you are, and that you have a bunch of fun lined up!

Thursday's Treasure

Any avid thrifter will tell you that one of their favorite places to look is in the cart of the worker stocking the shelves.  The lure of fresh pickings!  I try not to be too obvious about this, as I don't want to get in their way or be a pest.  BUT, if I glance in and happen to see something... I have no problem saying, "Oh, can I see that please?"  That's how I found these like-new Vera pillowcases the other day... lucky me!

Nested Treasure

Ooooooooh.  Aaaaaaaah.  Just look at this gorgeous set of primary colored nested Pyrex mixing bowls.  I found them on the bottom shelf of the thrift section that I call "ridiculously expensive".  These must have been priced by the new guy, though, because LOOK at the price tag:
~*~
Yep.  Seven dollars and ninety cents.  Yay me, yay me... happy dance, happy dance.  Upon close inspection, they are in near mint condition.  Value: $80+ for the set.  Wooohooooooo!!!

Thursday's Treasure

Just when I thought Tuesday's trip to the Salvation Army was a bust, I spied this beauty peeking out from the linen rack! It has a few flaws, but it also has a ton of gorgeous fabric for pillows or stuffed animals or totes, etc. I think I will sell it whole, as is, for some lucky seamstress to harvest as she sees fit.

~*~

Funny story, while I was pushing my cart around with this hanging over it, a lady came up oohing and ahhing and said, "Do you KNOW what this IS? Um, "What?" I reply- thinking maybe there was a special name for the pattern or something.

~*~

"An old chenille BEDSPREAD!" she proclaimed. Well, I'll be! I guess that takes care of that! Teehee. Perhaps I looked so youthful that she figured I couldn't possibly be old enough to remember these. Yep, that must be it :)

Daily Dose of Cute

There is something so special to me about vintage greeting cards. I wonder what it is? These three birthday cards are excellent examples of "things I couldn't walk away from". I lucked out at the little hospital charity thrift the other day... I found 25 assorted vintage cards from someone's collection at the amazing price of 10 cents each. I'll take a thrift store over Macy's any day of the week!!

Stymied

This GORGEOUS quilt is my Thursday's treasure for this week. It is quite possibly the most amazing bundle of beauty that I have ever owned. Stunning vintage fabrics in all of my favorite colors; varied textures and florals combine to exude an authentic and true shabby chic vibe. No stains, bright colors, very little wear. All mine! Salvation Army: $4.99. Seriously.
~*~
Why am I sharing Thursday's treasure with you on Saturday, you ask? Would you believe I have spent the last four days trying to get a photo or two that I felt would come close to showcasing this item's specialness? These two shots are the closest I could get, and they still don't do it any justice at all. Grrrr.
~*~
On a more positive note, I get to give the boot the boot in one more week! I hope you are having a super duper weekend... what are your plans? Do tell!

You can't get much closer than that; congratulations, Angela!

Thanks so much to all who played the Price is Right game this week. There were several VERY close guesses, so I believe it's only a matter of time before everyone wins. By the way, I need to call it something different, and I'm at a loss for names. Any ideas?

Thursday's Treasures

I have an eclectic mix of goodies to share with you today! These are some of my recent favorite thrift finds- soon to be listed in sosovintage.
~*~

Sweet sunshine and white bamboo handled bag. Anyone know the name for this sort of woven plastic?

~*~

Fabulous seventies child's twin sheet. I can't decide whether to sell the whole sheet, or break it into panels/fat quarters/yards. Opinions?

~*~

And finally, a mint condition vintage address book from Japan. Gorgeous!
