As far as "things" go, there are few things I love more than vintage chenille bedspreads. I am not exactly sure where or when this affection developed, but I suspect it has something to do with memories of Grandma's house.

So, when I happened upon not one but TWO of these gorgeous twin sized spreads at the Salvation Army last week, I freaked out a little inside. OK, alot. It's that distinct feeling that makes an avid thrifter feel like they are going to snatch up the item and then run around the store doing those little jump up and click your heels together moves. While keeping a close eye on your basket, of course.~*~
There were a couple of small stains on one of the spreads, the other was in mint condition. I pulled out all of my Oxyclean supplies and went to work.~*~

In the store, I looked everywhere for the price tags, and started to panic because they will not sell anything without a tag. I caught a manager going by and asked him about it. He said "$3.99". Three ninety-nine????!!!!! I nodded (keeping oh so calm and cool), since I figured I might accidentally emit a wild whooping scream if I opened my mouth.~*~
At home, when I was searching for stains to zap with my stain remover, I came across this original price tag still attached to one of the spreads. How many years ago do you think this tag was put on? Originally $10.12, marked down three times to a final price of $2.02. Just wow.

WOW I am envious of that find! Those are grand. I found a cute, vintage cotton bed cover with cool pom pom trim. Now I need a pretty cottage to put it in!

Risa- I don't have the heart to do anything to these but leave them as is- they are too perfect. For now I will look at them and smile. Silly, huh?

Not silly, I have a size 4 vintage sequined party dress - it looked lovely just hanging in my closet! I handed it down this weekend to my cousin for a "retro" college mixer.
Oh my goodness my heart did the upside down flip when I saw your chenille spreads!! It's still fluttering!! I was just thinking that you were probably about to BUST inside when the guy put the $3.99 price tag on those!! And yes...you are sooooooo right. I learned that one the hard way. I had a pink milk glass pedestal cake plate that got swiped from my buggy when I turned my head for a minute!! You can't leave that buggy unattended!! Someone will swipe your stuff right out of the buggy!! Great find! Congratulations!!

Wow I thought I found a good buy with my vintage sewing machine for $10 but you take the cake women!! That is one heck of a haul... You need to come visit so your thriftiness can rub off on me =)
Hoooootie Hoo!! YAYYY for thrifting! I'm SO like you. Afraid to smile too big for fear that someone else may know my secret! I LOVE the vintage chenille spreads and used to hunt for them everywhere! I just knew I was going to cut them up and sew with them! The first time I cut into one - It just about KILLED me! LOL I sold the rest - I knew they would never do anything - but sit! LOL There is nothing better than eying a "steal" across the room and making your feet move quick enough to get to it before another does! LOL Yep, it doesn't take much for me! I'm training Lizzie to hunt too! =0) LOVE your story!
I wanna go thrift shopping but most of the ones around me are ever so expensive and I am sorry but if I am gonna pay $10 for a blanket at the thrift store I might as well go and buy a BRAND NEW one.
