Make Some Noise

Happy (almost) New Year!
~*~
I don't know about you, but I am ready to make some noise!! January 1st marks my 2 year selling anniversary on Etsy. My first year was beyond great, so my hope for year 2 was that I would improve the success of the first year. It happened! I look forward to seeing what 2010 brings.
~*~
In case you really DO want to make some noise, the adorable vintage noisemakers above can be found in sosovintage! Wishing you all the best of health and happiness in the new year :)

Big Bowl Order: Check!

These bowls are headed off to their new home in Melbourne, Australia today! I loved working with these colors, and the customer was an absolute dream, too. It was a special treat to have a chance to make my stitchee bowlees in larger sizes; the smallest ones here are my usual size (3" wide by 2.5" high). The medium size is 5" wide by 3.5" high, and the large is 7" wide by 5" high.
Whew... that's a lot of bowl!

Makeover Monday: 12/28 (a day late!)

Gosh, has it really only been a week since I've posted? It feels like a month has passed! Since it has been so long, and since I'm a day late with this post, I have TWO makeovers for you!!
~*~

First up we have some organic cotton yarn in dusty rose...
~*~

and more of that deliciously delicate vintage lace.
~*~

Put them together and here we have a lace topped bowl, just in time for Valentine's Day! This little lady measures about 3" high and 3" wide... and she weighs in at just over one ounce.
~*~
Next up, a fabulous vintage sheet. The colors and textures in this one are stunning.
~*~

Voila! I have revived a project from my early days on Etsy- the granny square coaster/trivet. Super cushy and a generous 8.5" square, this delightful pad comes with a loop for hanging when not in use. I'm thinking of calling this an *undersquare*... for when you need to put something "under there". hehe.
~*~
So, what have you been up to??

Makeover Monday: 12/21 (a day early!)

I used most of this soft flannel Martha Stewart sheet for a recent rag rug project.
~*~ There was a good sized section that I had already cut into a wide strip, though. I spied it this morning and decided to see how it would turn out as a heart.
~*~

This one serves a dual purpose! It's a pretty decoration, large enough to hang on a door or wall for Valentine's Day... or in a baby girl's shabby chic nursery. It is also a perfect size to use as a coaster/trivet in the kitchen for hot pots, casseroles, or oversized mugs of steamy cocoa!
~*~
Soft, sturdy, flexible, rustic, romantic, eco-friendly... and machine washable and dryable, too!
~*~
I posted today because I hope to be jetting off to New England for Christmas tomorrow. I'll see you when I return...until then, have your happiest holiday ever!! xoxo

Snow Day!

We are in the middle of a major winter storm! We have 18" of snow and it's still coming down- and will be all night long.
~*~
Our backyard is a winter wonderland :)

We are taking this opportunity to dress our tree, wrap presents, play in the snow, and drink some VERY decadent hot chocolate.
~*~
~*~
There should be a snowstorm on this date every year. It's absolutely perfect to have this time to thoroughly enjoy the warmth of our home, the love of our family, the beauty of nature, and the spirit of the season.

Pretty Polyester

I know, I know... it seems like an oxymoron. Pretty polyester. I have been pleasantly surprised by the beauty of a few of my finds lately, though.
~*~Silky lavender and orchid paisley
~*~
Raised knit floral in white and aqua
~*~

Waffle weave mint argyle
~*~
I have between a half yard and three yards of these fabrics... what do you suppose a sewing person would make with these? Pillows? Totes? I'm not sure, but I could look at that aqua one all day!!

Starry Rainbow

Just wanted to share a couple of photos of the 40 stars I made for a good friend to give out with her Etsy packages- 2 each of 20 different colors! Those are the teeny, subtle version of my sosorosey *paper bag tags* on each one.

~*~

As I was taking photos, I thought these could be super cute for wedding, baby shower, or party favors. I could do them in any color(s) imaginable! And, instead of sosorosey tags, they could be personalized with names, dates, or a special quote or message.
~*~
What do you think of that idea?

Makeover Monday: 12/14

I recently purchased a huge bag of vintage trims and lace.
~*~

I decided to try my hand at crocheting some of the lace into a heart. Now I ask you, does it get more romantic, girly or Valentine-y than this? I think not!

Rectangular Rug: Check!

Yippee! I put the finishing touches on the rectangular rug last night!
~*~

She weighs in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and will be making her way to her new home in Wisconsin very soon. She'll be sure to add a super dash of color, charm, and comfort to the kitchen!

Thrifty Goodness

I found this gorgeous satin lined standing/foldable needlework bag the other day, and was so excited! I have seen these before, but never one quite this awesome. It is smell-free, rip-free, and sturdy as can be.
~*~

I need help though...is there a special name for these things? And, does this look like barkcloth to you? Any info you can share is much appreciated!!

Holiday Tags

~*~
Better late than never, I've just added some handmade tags in Christmas colors! I have a very limited supply of these red roses, though, so *darn* I will have to hunt for more very soon!

The Shape of Things to Come

Hearts, of course! I've been hard at work perfecting a signature sosorosey upcycled heart which I hope to debut in early January. I have more than ornaments up my sleeve, but for now I'm not tellin'!
~*~
Have you started thinking about Valentine's Day projects yet, or am I the only nutjob around here?

Angel Eyes

I'm hoping this beautiful girl can find a new home for the holidays! Vintage HH Japan, she stands about 6" high and is in mint condition. She's in my shop and ready to fly off today :)

Makeover Monday: 12/7

I started out with a big stack of fabrics in greens and blues...
~*~

...and I'm halfway finished with this *ocean wave* inspired rectangular rug.
~*~

The colors are balanced, yet uneven. This lends a less structured, more freeform look to the overall rug versus a strict striping effect. I have promised to have this completed by 12/15- I'll post finished photos then!

Hey Now, You're a Rock Star...

So, this isn't just a super cute photo of my baby girl. It's an homage to her first really good thrift find! The shades are vintage Polaroid Cool Ray sunglasses- rare and quite fabulous.
~*~
I was floored when she held them up from her end of the bric-a-brac aisle and said, "Hey Mom, look at THESE!!". I praised her ability to hunt up a fantastic treasure, then put them carefully in my cart.
~*~
I cleaned them up when we got home and put them on the *to be photographed* shelf. When she saw them up there, she was aghast. Beside herself. "You aren't going to SELL my rock star glasses, are you??????" Well, I guess not!!
~*~
What can I say, I've got a cool kid.
(Thank you, Smash Mouth, for my title.)
