Makeover Monday: 4/26

I started with a rug that I made a few weeks ago... It needed a little something.

This bright, rusty-orange, tie-dyed, jersey knit sheet was just what the rug doctor ordered!

Now THAT is a finished rug... it kind of reminds me of a tranquil koi pond.

So far for me it's just getting ready for Mother's Day, making an eye doctor appointment, and cleaning out the guest room closet. Maybe a trip to Ikea. I know, it's an exciting life that I lead!

Friday Fun Info

Happy Saturday, folks! I'm so sorry that Friday Fun didn't happen on Friday- I had lots going on and just couldn't get to it. I fully intend to post game 2 of "The Price is Right" sometime today, so please do come on back to play!

In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of the large coaster or small mat that I will be listing in sosorosey soon. I love that the flowers in the fabric are still visible! This item is about 18" wide, and would serve nicely under pet food/water bowls or under the centerpiece/salt/pepper/etc. on a large farm table.

Thursday's Treasure: Mother's Day Ready

There isn't much that makes me happier than finding a way to create something unique that is both fun and functional. And if it serves multiple purposes? Well, that's just pure bliss!

Just in time for spring and Mother's Day, please welcome the upcycled wallflower. Crocheted entirely from freshly laundered, repurposed fabrics, these are a super fun way to really *go green*!

~*~

While it's certainly no thrill to BE a wallflower, having or giving one of these is a sure way to celebrate the pure and simple joy of the growing season.

~*~

At a generous 8" diameter, the wallflower can be a coaster/trivet under your favorite beverage, potted plant, pitcher or casserole. When not in use, it brightens up a hook or wall space with a touch of color and splash of whimsy.

Fun idea: order a set and decorate an entire sunporch wall or child's room! Happily made to order in any color under the sun :)

For the Baby Sister

I met a sweet mother recently who is expecting her second daughter in July. She came across my ruffled Easter basket, and was hoping I could make one to match big sister Audrey's basket. She even sent me this photo, which was so helpful to me in picking out fabrics!

~*~These are the fabrics I came up with, and my customer agreed that they would work well. We decided on using the whiter one as the main color, with a swath of the yellow in the middle.

~*~
I made it exactly the way we discussed, but when I finished it last night, I was a little sad by how much the ruffles covered up the yellow. I decided to do a little somethin' somethin', knowing that if my customer didn't like it, I could easily remove it.

So, in addition to the yellow swath in the mid-section, I gave it a top row of the yellow along with a sweet bow on the side. I love the way it turned out, and so does the mom- yay!

Girly Girl Friday

The pale blue boy basket from a recent Makeover Monday will soon be on its way to Canada! He needed a female travelling companion though.

My customer said she wanted something pink, so I went with one of my all time favorite vintage sheets. Can you believe some fool used this as a painting dropcloth at one time?? The nerve!

New Boy Basket

A brand new customer sent me a message the other day looking for a custom Easter basket for her son's first Easter. She found me by searching for a basket online, and joined Etsy just to contact me. The google search that Etsy has been working so hard on must be working!

She wanted a mix of lighter blues and navy, and settled on this plaid flannel for the fabric.

~*~

I finished this last night while watching American Idol (go Crystal, go Lee). I love the way it came out, and I hope my customer does too. I have two more custom basket orders (for girls) in the works, so stay tuned for more makeovers!

Thursday's Treasures

Well, I don't have a photo of my best treasure for today. It was my daughter asking, "Hey Mom, do you wanna do "All The Single Ladies" after breakfast?" For us, *doing* "All The Single Ladies" means we put on dress up clothes, crank up the song, and dance ourselves silly. Today we just wore hats- me, baseball, Sophie, miner. I wish there WAS a photo...what a great way to start the day!

In other news, I'm hoping this basket will be a treasure for my new customer. She loved the blue and brown one for her son, but needed one for her little girl. She wanted bright colors, with pink, orange, and yellow. I think she'll love this!

And lastly, I found these silver plated Reed & Barton lotus (waterlily) bowls at the Salvation Army. Both still have their original stickers, and they are in fantastically excellent condition. I paid $1.99 each for them. After some research, I've found that resale prices are all over the map- from $25 to $50. In any case, they should bring 5x what I paid which is my minimum personal goal when I "flip" a vintage item.

It's About Time

I featured this mezzaluna rug here on my blog a looooooong time ago. I tried to consider it finished, but something just wasn't right. It wasn't as large as I wanted it to be, and it was just, well, blah.

I searched and searched on and off for several weeks to find a coordinating fabric that would make it look more special. Then, of course, once I found it, I had to make the time to go back and revamp the original.

~*~

If I had known how awesome the result would be, I'd have completed this a long time ago! The raspberry color in the second fabric is such a perfect match. I am thrilled to say that this neutral beauty has finally claimed her rightful place on the *shelf* in sosorosey; she's ready to be chosen for a special new home!

Makeover Monday: 2/1

I've been hard at work on a special project for a new and very lovely customer in Australia!

She chose this vintage Peter Rabbit print as the main fabric because she loved all the colors.

At my urging, she agreed to this pink vintage sheeting as the trim.

I added a vintage wooden toggle button....

~*~

... and voila! An upcycled clutch purse that is both roomy and stylish.

We are toying with the idea of adding a wrist strap. I love the way this design turned out, and made sure to write down my stitches and pattern as I worked. There's got to be another person out there who'd love a bag that says, "I am unique and I HEART handmade"!

Makeover Monday: 1/25

Last week was a little bit stressful for me. I had some major PMS, a customer I couldn't please, a to-do list a mile long that seemed to grow longer with each passing day. You know those weeks. So, for today's makeover, I pulled out a pillowcase that I knew would soothe my frazzled self!

Whenever there is discord and strife, there are always roses. Soft, pink, flannel Waverly roses- to be exact!

~*~

This fabric didn't want to be anything but a coaster. And guess what? I have the entire queen sized set!! Do you know what that means? Yep... I'm thinking rug. Want to get me moving on it? Just send me a message and say, "I want that rug!!!"

New Big Bowl

For the first time in a loooooong time, I crocheted a big ole bowl *just because*. I wish it were possible to capture the softness and detail of this one in photographs. It is made from a freshly laundered, pink paisley jersey knit cotton sheet. She measures 11" across and stands about 4.5" tall. This one would make a gorgeous container for makeup or hair accessories for girls of all ages. Look for it in sosorosey very soon- price tag: $30.

Makeover Monday: 1/4

A special returning customer recently asked me to make her a 9" round trivet. She asked that it be kind of like the *anchors aweigh* bowl currently for sale in my shop. Knowing that she loves vintage fabrics, I decided that this old cotton sheet would be perfect for the job.

I love that you can still make out the floral pattern. These roses are so beautiful, they deserve to be showcased for a few more decades, don't you think?

Makeover Monday: 12/28 (a day late!)

Gosh, has it really only been a week since I've posted? It feels like a month has passed! Since it has been so long, and since I'm a day late with this post, I have TWO makeovers for you!!

First up we have some organic cotton yarn in dusty rose...

and more of that deliciously delicate vintage lace.

Put them together and here we have a lace topped bowl, just in time for Valentine's Day! This little lady measures about 3" high and 3" wide... and she weighs in at just over one ounce.

Next up, a fabulous vintage sheet. The colors and textures in this one are stunning.

~*~

Voila! I have revived a project from my early days on Etsy- the granny square coaster/trivet. Super cushy and a generous 8.5" square, this delightful pad comes with a loop for hanging when not in use. I'm thinking of calling this an *undersquare*... for when you need to put something "under there". hehe.

Makeover Monday: 12/21 (a day early!)

I used most of this soft flannel Martha Stewart sheet for a recent rag rug project.

~*~ There was a good sized section that I had already cut into a wide strip, though. I spied it this morning and decided to see how it would turn out as a heart.
~*~


This one serves a dual purpose! It's a pretty decoration, large enough to hang on a door or wall for Valentine's Day... or in a baby girl's shabby chic nursery. It is also a perfect size to use as a coaster/trivet in the kitchen for hot pots, casseroles, or oversized mugs of steamy cocoa!

Soft, sturdy, flexible, rustic, romantic, eco-friendly... and machine washable and dryable, too!

Rectangular Rug: Check!

Yippee! I put the finishing touches on the rectangular rug last night!

She weighs in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and will be making her way to her new home in Wisconsin very soon. She'll be sure to add a super dash of color, charm, and comfort to the kitchen!

I started out with a big stack of fabrics in greens and blues...

...and I'm halfway finished with this *ocean wave* inspired rectangular rug.

~*~

The colors are balanced, yet uneven. This lends a less structured, more freeform look to the overall rug versus a strict striping effect. I have promised to have this completed by 12/15- I'll post finished photos then!
