At Last

My new rug baby is born!
~*~
It was touch and go whether I'd be able to keep my promise and have her ready for Mom by the end of February.  I finished in plenty of time, though- at 11:59 am February 28th.
~*~
It is so hard to capture her size and beauty in pictures.  She is six feet long and two and a half feet wide.  That's 72" long and 30" wide!  For you European people, that's 182.88 cm long and 76.2 cm wide.  (For the record, I *do* realize all the numbers are overkill, but hey, this baby is huge!)
~*~
~*~
And look what we have way down on her little end... my new sosorosey cotton twill sew-on rug tags.  I LOVE them!  I purchased them from Michelle at inkedpapers.etsy.com.  Here's a LINK to the ones I bought.
~*~
So now you know when she was born, and how long she is.  Who would like to venture a guess as to how many different fabrics were used in this rug?  Or how much she weighs?  I'll impart those stats in the comments tomorrow for anyone interested.
~*~
Gosh, what in the world will I work on tonight?

Mister Kitty Crossed Paws

~*~
Does anyone get my title?  A play on Kitty Soft Paws from Puss N Boots?  Nothing like giving yourself a good giggle every now and then.  Anyhoo.  I'm feeling so much better that I'm taking the thrift stores by storm today!  I evidently wear Sinatra out with all of my energy.  Poor, sleepy man ;)

Makeover Monday: 2/27

Today's project is a special order that came in at the end of last week.  Upon checking out with THIS purchase, the customer asked for turquoise yarn...
~*~
... and a whitish fabric topper.  With maybe green and/or yellow.  I enjoyed looking through all of my fabrics to find the perfect one!
~*~
I love the way they came out.  So crisp, clean and colorful.  They remind me of a Mediterranean vista.  I hope they are exactly what was envisioned.  They'll be heading off to California tomorrow :)
~*~
What's going on in your neck of the woods this week?  I plan to spend today and tomorrow making up for last week's lost thrifting time, so I am raring to go!  I hope you have a wonderful start to the last week of February.

My personal favorite is the third one down- I love those bouquets and stripes!
Do you have a favorite this time?
~*~
In other exciting news, I have been given a little feature on another bowl/basket maker's blog today!  If you'd like, you can see it HERE.  Be sure to visit the talented Valerie Tonus of SquareCircleWorks at her Etsy shop HERE.  Have a super day!

Thursday's Treasures (a little late)

I have 3 new favorite products to share!  Not sure if they are available outside of the US, though, so my apologies in advance if they are not.
~*~
~*~
Burt's Bees has come out with a new line of products and they are awesome!!  Clicking on the picture above will bring you to the site.  You can follow a link from there to get free samples and coupons from their facebook page!  My favorite is the orange petalooza scent (hyacinth and blood orange).  I now have the shampoo, body wash, body lotion, and body mist.  The scent is delicate and delicious!
~*~
~*~
Next up is this limited edition method soap in the botanical garden scent.  The "designed for good" series features recycled bottles and naturally derived and biodegradable hand wash.  The scent is full of spider lily, water lotus, bamboo and lush moss- though to me, it has a delightful lily-of-the-valley hint.  Definitely a hand washing treat!!
~*~

~*~
And lastly, in my quest to lose the extra pounds I've packed on in the last several years, I have been looking for more healthy food options.  While my typical lunch these days consists of carrots, nuts and pretzels, I do have the occasional craving for pizza.  The lean cuisine mushroom pizza (with a generous helping of crushed red pepper added) is a really nice option.  It is tasty and satisfying- and only 300 calories!  I'm 15 pounds lighter since January 1st, and getting thinner and healthier every day :)
~*~
Do you have any new favorite products that you want to share?  Please leave a comment!  Stay tuned for Friday's Fabrics tomorrow!

Off Track

~*~
Well, due to some technical difficulties and a nasty sinus infection, I've really gotten off track with my blog week.  I'm planning to have Thursday's Treasure and Friday's Fabrics for you this weekend, though.  In the meantime, I wanted to share these bowls with you.
~*~
~*~
This is a nesting set of utility bowls, crocheted with a double strand of cotton string.  These will be heading to San Francisco this weekend because they were made at the special request of a lovely repeat customer.
~*~
~*~
Special requests are even more awesome when they turn out to be for items I can list as "made to order" in my shop.  The smallest of these bowls is 3" wide by 2.5" high.  The largest is a whopping 10" wide and 3.5" tall.  Lots of clutter keeping ability with these organizers!

Kissy Cat

~*~
Just look at how the uber talented Lisa Jane used her Kliban cat fabric from sosovintage!  I adore the combination of fabrics that she put together, don't you?  In fact, her entire shop is brimming with beautifully coordinated, colorful creations.  Check it out by clicking on the photo or right HERE.  Enjoy!!

Well, That's Different

~*~
Assuming that guesses are like cockroaches (you know, for every one you see there are a hundred more that are there), let me put ALL of your minds to rest.  No, I didn't swipe the tail off of the neighborhood fox.  Or chop off a rabbit's foot.  Nothing so dastardly.  All I did was purchase a box of very old bowties in an antique store!
~*~
I know the sage checked shirt isn't exactly the best match for the fur tie.  But really, what goes with a fur bowtie?!!!!  Note to self- call Elton John first thing tomorrow am...
~*~
I've got to figure out how to photograph and list this thing.  Anyone want first dibs?  Aunt Irene, you KNOW Uncle Phil would look extra dashing in this!!

Daily Dose of ...

~*~
What the heck?????
What IS this thing???
Can you guess???

Makeover Monday 2/20

~*~
For today's makeover, I chose this vintage pillowcase.  I had originally purchased it with plans of selling it in sosovintage, but on close examination it had too many imperfections.  That made it a perfect choice for a sosorosey project!
~*~
~*~
Mmm... lemon blueberry poppyseed.
~*~
~*~
I added a knotted strip of the fabric to use as a hanger.  I can't be the only one with limited space on my desk!  The possibilities of these hanging storage pods are endless- I don't know why I never thought of
this before!  There will certainly be more of these to come :)

Tribal?

~*~
Etsy has been going through a *tribal* phase- many front pages are compiled of arrows and chevrons and ponchos.  Dream catchers and leather beading.  I don't see this carrying over to real life in my area, but I'm not exactly known for being on the pulse edge of fashion trends.
~*~
I made this little bowl last night as a nod to my beloved southwest.  It may not scream "tribal", but the colors and zigzaggy trim are my whispery sosorosey version. :)

Not Your Average Headband

~*~
Just look at what designer Jen Nolan whipped up with this fabric purchased at sosovintage!
~*~
What originally started as a simple desire to create a headband for her own daughter has become a full blown "garden bowtique".  Jen gathers up her favorite materials ~ silk, satin, chiffon, tulle, french netting, feathers, rhinestones ~ and sets to work crafting original, beautiful works of art.
~*~
One step into her shop will have you oohing and aahing over the gorgeous photos of babies and children sporting the most precious headwear ever.  Go ahead, click the banner below to pay a visit to Isla's Garden Bowtique.  You will NOT be able to choose a favorite- but it is so fun to try!

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

Happy Friday!  TGIF, as far as I'm concerned.  What started out as a nice week went south on Tuesday when Sophie came down with a bad cold.  She stayed home Wednesday and Thursday, and now guess who has the cold?  Ugh.  Anyhoo- I found some nice striped cottons recently, and a couple of pretty florals.  Take a peek!
~*~

~*~
Would you believe that after weeks of a non-winter, we have the prospect of a big snowstorm for Sunday?  I'll keep you posted on that.  I'd love a big storm, as long as we have plenty of food and don't lose power.
~*~
I have some beautiful work to show you this weekend- a unique item that a customer recently shared- so be sure to come back and visit.  Also, there WILL be a makeover this Monday.  And Mom's rug?  3/4 finished now!!  Happy weekend everyone :)

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
Sophie gave me the best Valentine ever this week!  In case you don't read 6 year old, here's the translation:
"Sugar is sweet, but I know one thing... I love my mom.  That's the Valentine."
~*~
Awww.  She may not be a poet (yet), but she definitely has conviction!

Date Reveal

Thanks to all who played my little game.  Wow, Karen!  Dead on, girl!  How did you do that?

Old Love

~*~
Happy Heart Day, Friends!  Since I love you so much, I thought I'd share one of my favorite vintage valentines with you... and a guessing game, too!  What would you say is the year on this postcard?  C'mon- leave a comment with your answer, and I'll be back tomorrow to share the reverse side.  Hope you have a special day full of hugs and kisses!

Weekend Getaway

Back in early December we planned a mini trip for this past weekend 180 miles south to Virginia Beach.  My mom and dad met us there, and we had a chance to visit with my aunt and uncle, 2 cousins, and their spouses.  We packed so much into a short trip that I don't have a makeover to share with you today.  BUT, I do have some trip highlight photos for you!
~*~
We were so excited to have an oceanfront room with a little balcony.
~*~
The "unobstructed" view from the room.
~*~
Hey look!  Mom and Dad's room is just a few down from ours!
~*~
We were driven back into the hotel room by the cold, and by the seagulls hoping for a snack.
~*~
On Sunday we headed to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center.  They have an IMAX movie theater, and we got to see Wild Ocean in 3D.  It was incredible!
~*~
I had never seen a bobwhite before.  How cute are these little softball sized bellies?
~*~
This guy cracked me up.  He stood here on the bottom like this the whole time we hung out at this display.
~*~
 Komodo dragons- roar!
~*~
We all sat in this aquarium tunnel reef exhibit for quite awhile as Sophie tried to locate all of the different tropical fish on her chart.  Nana is always grinning from ear to ear when Sophie is around!
~*~
Jellyfish are such amazing creatures.  I don't care to see them beside me in the ocean, but watching them gracefully swim around the tank was really nice!
~*~
I hope you enjoyed my little tour :)  Now I'm off to pack packages, grocery shop, and do the trip laundry.  Did you do anything fun this weekend?  Anything big on tap for this week?  Do tell!

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

It's been another really nice week here.  I'm relieved to have the basket(s) completed, and am looking forward to the auction and dance tonight.  Tomorrow we are going on a very mini-vacation to Virginia Beach, too.  Sophie hasn't seen a beach since my parents moved away from Florida, so she's really looking forward to it.  We plan to walk along the shore and look for shells no matter how cold it is!
~*~
I leave you with some bright *new* fabrics to kick off your weekend:

~*~
I really love all of these, so a favorite is hard to choose.  But, c'mon... violet and chartreuse argyle with safety pins???  Soooooo cool!!!
