Lizard Love

~*~
Behold the Collared Lizard!  We found this little friend while we were hiking north of Moab yesterday.  It isn't strange to see lizards in general out here, but this species is a rare sight.  His colors are so bold against the muted desert landscape, and he let us get within a foot or two to get this photo.  He's about full grown at almost 12 inches long snout to tail, and he stood his ground valiantly.  What a treat!

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

Happy Friday the 13th!  I was lucky enough to find THREE new~to~me old sheets this week.  And here they are:

~*~
Aren't they beautiful?!  All of them would look gorgeous as a skirt, dress, or apron. Or pillow. or napkins. Or anything! They won't be listed in the shop for about a week, but you know I'm just a message away if you feel one of these calling to you :)

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
The other day, I had a customer ask for more of the quilt blocks that I had listed in sosovintage. I knew I HAD more, I just couldn't seem to find them. After looking in all of the usual places, I began searching the more unusual places. Nada. Back to searching the usual places in case I missed them the first time. Zip. As I was wording the message in my head about how sorry I was that I couldn't find them, I turned around and looked all around the "craft room" from another angle. There they were, on top of a box of random goodies that I'd left unpacked because I felt sure I'd need them asap (this was about a year ago). Whew! Mental acuity crisis averted!
~*~
The treasure in all of this is not just that I was able to locate the original items, but the other things I re-found in the process. Like these sweet booties! Purchased over a year ago on an antique trip in PA, I couldn't resist the pink and blue felt of these precious baby shoes. I think I'm ready to part with them. Heaven knows I won't be needing them. But what if Sophie has a baby girl one day? Maybe I ought to hang onto them for just a couple more decades...

WIP Wednesday

Sometimes it seems that my best ideas come to me when I don't have the immediate time to pursue them.  That gives me time to think out the details, though.
~*~
~*~
After contemplating all of the comments from yesterday's post, I came up with the most awesome new item!  Check it out: one of a kind special occasion origami star Christmas ornaments made from...
...wait for it...
... vintage gift wrap!
~*~
~*~
I KNEW there was a real purpose behind this collection of mine!  I have vintage wrapping paper for every occasion imaginable.  These top two stars are wedding themed, and the last one is new baby girl.  Wouldn't these make the coolest shower gifts?
~*~
~*~
I folded these using smaller squares, so they are the perfect size for hanging on a tree.  Now I just need to figure out the "hanger" part.  I want it to go through the middle if I can, since there is a natural opening there.  I'll play around with the possibilities over the next few days.  Look out for those and more vintage gift wrap goodies in sosofabulous before summer's end!

Inspiration Star

As you know from my sosorosey shop, stars have long held a special place in my heart.  So, I set out to find an origami star that I loved (and could make!).  And tahdah!
~*~
This is called modular origami- when a finished product is put together from several folded units.  This one is made from 8 units that I folded from 6" square origami paper.
~*~
~*~
The finished star measures 8.5" across!  I am SO excited to make one of these from vintage fabric.  An original "vinspiration star"!  Unfortunately, I don't think I have time to prep any fabric before my trip.  But, I have something else in mind to try tonight.  Stay tuned!!
~*~
Before I get carried away- be honest... is this something that you think would appeal to people?  They are flat, but they can be pinned to a corkboard or hung with a length of fishing line or framed...
~*~
Thoughts and ideas are much appreciated!

Makeover Monday: 7/9

 ~*~
A lovely customer from Australia found this fabric in sosovintage for her custom sosorosey order.  I was so happy that I had enough!
~*~
~*~
Here is the 7" by 4" basket.  Next up will be a larger basket in another vintage fabric... but not until after vacation.  It's so nice to work with such a pleasant and patient person!

Twin Posies

~*~
Custom orders for sosorosey have been few and far between for many months, so I was happy to get the request for these large ruffled potholder/trivets. They measure 9.5" across, so they are large and thick enough for just about anything you want to set on top of them.
~*~
My next job is two custom baskets, and I hope to have one to share as Makeover Monday tomorrow.  What are you making these days?
