Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

Lots of pretty *new* blues heading to sosovintage this afternoon!

All are 50/50 with the exception of the middle one- that one is 100% cotton.  The last one is my absolute favorite, but you probably already knew that!  Here's wishing you a lovely weekend :)

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
We have done far better with our gardening this summer than last year.  Part of that is because of the awesome planter from Mike that has kept us loaded with basil, mint, rosemary and sage.  Part of it is that we switched from growing regular tomatoes to cherry tomatoes.  And the other part is due to a cool gnome garden growing kit that Sophie received as a gift from her special Michigan peeps.  She has 3 containers with several things growing nicely.  These are her radishes that we harvested last night!

Another nice thing about this week... I finished something else!  Two things in one week!  This mat was such a joy to make- I love these mellow colors and all of the subtle shading.  She turned out to be a healthy 19" in diameter.  Large enough to serve as a table centerpiece or to host a couple of pet bowls on the sun porch.

What are you feeling happy about this week?

WiP Wednesday

~*~
Usually when I make rugs or coasters, I cut the fabric strips pretty thick and use a super large crochet hook.  Lately, though, I've been experimenting with achieving a more delicate, lacy look.  By cutting the fabric much thinner and continuing to use the large hook, the end result is more open.  This leaves the item functional yet flexible.  This mat is still in progress... it is being made from a gorgeous tie-dyed cotton sheet that I've been saving for just the right project.  I'm anxious to see how large it will end up- I'll keep you posted!

Here's a coaster/trivet with this effect that I finished recently.  This one is made from two matching pillowcases, and it measures 10.5" wide.  Even though it is more of an open weave, it still offers plenty of table protection.  Perfect for under a plant or hot casserole dish in the farmhouse kitchen.  I love those little red flowers peeping out of this one.

Tah Dah Tuesday

~*~
I finished something!!  I finished my make-do rug!!  She is a whopping 33" across- not a small girl.  I really like the pink progression throughout the project- kind of a sosorosey ombre effect.  Every single fabric used here, with the exception of the darkest pink around the edge, was repurposed from another repurposed project.  Say THAT three times fast.  Oh, and in case you didn't hear me the first time-  I finished something!! (skips off to enjoy this very rare feeling...}

Makeover Monday: 8/6

 ~*~
Sophie won this little turtle when we went to Dutch Wonderland earlier this summer.  Last week, she brought him to me, upset that one of his eyes was ravelled.  I told her I would fix it.  Each day, she would come check on my progress.  And each day that I didn't fix it, my mom guilt grew and grew.
~*~
One day, I picked it up and fumbled with the ravelling eye.  Apparently it was attached to the other eye, and the only thing to do was remove them both.  This was a deep concern to my girl- a no-eyed turtle just wouldn't do.  Her progress checks increased in frequency and urgency.

Finally, I hauled out my sewing box and beads and gave the creature his looks and sight back.  More importantly, I made my daughter's day.  We moms need to remember to make time for the little things, since they are often what matters most to our little ones.

Cheater

~*~
My heart belongs to Pyrex, through and through.  Yet, this little bowl by Federal Glass has captured my love.  I bought it to sell, but alas, I can't part with it.  Hopefully there won't be any scuffles in the cupboards- I don't want all the Pyrex ganging up on her, y'know?  I think she'll be able to stand up for herself.  She's armed with aqua blue, gorgeous graphics, and the ace in the hole- an onion :)

Fabric Origami Star

~*~
Thought you might be interested in seeing my finished vintage fabric origami star.  While I think it's pretty, it's not something that I think I'll make again.  The fabric is too thick compared to paper, and because of the folds, the end result is too bulky in the middle.  I have lots of these squares prepared, though, so I may try a different model.  Stay tuned!
