I started with this big, beautiful stack of shabby pink fabrics...

...and I am sooooooooo close to being finished with this custom oval rag rug. I have one more row to go, and it will be ready to fly off to its new home in New Jersey.
~*~
Next big projects: 26 small stars with 2009 charms, 20 yellow upcycled stars, and a rectangular rag rug to complement the green mezzaluna that I made a few weeks ago. Fun!!

The Gamble Paid Off

One of my favorite thrift stores sells many, many items in randomly packaged plastic bags. You can't open the bag, mind you. You can just poke at it and try your best to see what's inside.
~*~
Most of these are full of kids *stuff*- beanie babies and Pez containers. Sometimes there will be a bag full of old tatted trims or 5 different cell phone chargers. I only glance at the bags if I have an exceptionally luxurious amount of time to spend, which is hardly ever.
~*~
The other day, however, a bag of shiny parts caught my eye. There was a single piece of paper, and lots and lots of acrylic daisies. It found its way into my cart like a magnet. I had no idea if the parts were all there, or even what the parts made. I guess I figured that for $2, my daughter would have fun playing with the pieces no matter what they made.
~*~
This morning I unloaded the bag, and we spent some quality mother daughter time at the kitchen table. We were both DELIGHTED at the result! This vintage daisy tree is so sweet! It is meant to be a centerpiece, and all of the branch rounds turn. You are supposed to fill each daisy with a little appetizer or petit four, or a fresh flower or Christmas ornament.
~*~
Sophie didn't even have to beg very hard for me to agree to keep this one for *us*. Sosovintage will have to do without this treat.

Makeover Monday: 11/16

I started with a gorgeous king size Ralph Lauren cotton sheet...
~*~
...and I am almost finished with mezzaluna number 2. I love the way this one has a neutral effect with a burst of festive shabby chic-ness. I plan to try to have one of these half moon rugs in my shop at all times. I'm taking suggestions about what the next color should be. Any thoughts?

Friday's Fab Find: 11/13

Hootie Hoo... This little napkin holder is just the cutest thing! Intricately carved wood, and both sides have this little sweetie's face and feathery bod. Wouldn't this add the sweetest vintage woodland flair to your cottage? You can find it in sosovintage later this evening.
~*~
Have a fabulous weekend!

Good Morning To Me!

A big heaping spoonful of thanks to Etsy for choosing my sosovintage mod deco lidded container to grace the front page this morning! Another large bundle of appreciation goes to Felicia at FluffyFlowers for sending me a congrats message :)
~*~
It's rainy and gray outside for the second day in a row, but I'm having a sunshiny day on the inside! Happy Thursday!

Holiday Party Favors!

I am so happy for these red flannel stars! They get to be the party favors at a New England holiday gathering in December. Didn't that hostess have a clever idea?

~*~

~*~
I have to do an extra "show off" of the tags I designed and made myself - out of this week's grocery bags. An extra bonus: I shop at Harris Teeter, and the bags are 100% recycled. So, I guess my tags are re-recycled. Is that a word? In any case, I love them, and I hope the guests do, too!
~*~
pssst: An extra thank you to Jessi at jessijewels.etsy.com for sending me the correctly fonted *sosorosey* for my tags!

Makeover Monday: 11/8

For this week's project, I started with a gorgeous, recently thrifted set of vintage Cannon Royal Family sheets.
~*~

~*~
And I came up with a new pattern for a half-moon rug! This one is super cushy and will last years and years. Fits perfectly in front of a sink or a door- it measures 34" across and is 15" at its widest point. Over half an inch thick, too!
~*~

I need to take a few more photos, but look for it in my shop this week. Price tag: $45. Once this sweetie has been snatched up, I'll offer a custom half-moon rug option- you pick the color!
~*~

Happy Monday, everyone :)

Old School Jewels

Here we have a perfect example of my thrifting addiction. I rarely wear more than jeans and t-shirts. Sometimes I dress the ensemble up with earrings. My days of wearing shirts that need pressing, let alone blouses with french cuffs, are (please, Lord) behind me.
~*~
But yet, I couldn't leave these beautiful cuff links behind once I had laid eyes on them. I am so excited for them to find a new home, but I have a problem. I have no idea what these are made of. No idea of the style, or how to describe the materials. Do you have any tips? If so, please don't hesitate to share!
~*~
Don't forget to come back and visit tomorrow- I have a fabulous Makeover Monday to share!

Friday's Find: 11/6

Last week, the Salvation Army had just put out their Christmas goodies when I arrived. I found some nice things, but nothing that made me jump around. I wasn't expecting much in the way of Christmas today, figuring it had been picked over by now.
~*~
But, I guess they had more to put out- lucky me! I snatched this snowman up right straight away! He was made by the Empire Plastic Corp. in 1968... the year I was born. Doesn't he have the sweetest face?

Starbrite Peppermints

I made this trivet/coaster last night, and the first thing I thought of when I saw the finished product was peppermint. Not just any peppermints, though. Only the Starbrite kind, by Brachs I think. Those were the ones my grandma always had in her purse. And the ones grandpa always had in his pocket. Funny how the smallest thing can trigger a tidal wave of nostalgia when you least expect it. Has that ever happened to you?

Buttony Baggy

In case you haven't noticed, I've been fascinated with crocheting more than yarn and fabric lately. After the jute t*wine bag, I decided to try my hand at making a dainty gadget bag- out of cotton twine (ok- string).
~*~
I added the ruffle at the top for a feminine touch, and then went for all out whimsy with the button ends. The inner portion of the bag is 4" long by 3" wide- perfect for a cell or small camera. Now I see a wonderful use for all of the single and vintage buttons I have been hoarding! Any idea what color combo I should try next?

Makeover Monday: 11/2

I used this entire ball of twine last night to make...

A jute wine bag! Or a t*wine bag...hehe. I REALLY love the way this turned out. Not only is it an awesome way to wrap your gift, but it is actually functional long after the wine is gone. Fold the top over and you have a natural fiber clutter keeper of adjustable height, perfect for keys & cell, seashells, soaps- you name it.
~*~
I know how much I will charge for these in my shop, but I am super curious as to what you would think it should cost. Without knowing the time it took or the cost of materials, what's your *best price* for this item? I promise to come back and tell you the real price later this evening once I've had a few comments...

Wholesale Stars: Check!

This little celestial rainbow is ready to fly off to Pennsylvania tomorrow- just in time for the grand opening of Wildcard! I hope they will be a *star* attraction at the party on November 7th ... sorry, I couldn't resist :)
