Makeover Monday: 4/2

~*~
I have many bunny faces and jute appliques to make this week, but I also have this beginning post for a wonderful makeover that will be happening in the next 10 days or so.  All of these fabrics will combine to make an heirloom lidded clutter keeper that will make its way to Australia upon completion.  Looking forward to working with a spectacularly kind and fun repeat customer on this project!

Makeover Monday: 11/19

~*~
I found this fun paisley tablecloth the other day, and knew the colors and pattern would look lovely as a crocheted *thing*.
~*~
~*~
I love it!  This basket is positively bursting with personality.  It's a large one, too- about 10" across and 4" tall.  A perfect fruit bowl for that eco~conscious person on your holiday list.

Wednesday's Works

~*~
I found this sweet cotton floral pillowcase the other day, and was shocked when I looked at the tag and read "Tommy Hilfiger".  I would have bet money that it was vintage.  No matter, I knew it would look smashing as an upcycled pod.  Made this last night after I collapsed on the couch.
~*~
My main work for the last two days has been PTA related.  Even as a teacher for many years, and as an active parent in all of Sophie's classes, I had no idea just how much the PTA does for the school.   From readying and stuffing hundreds of Back to School packets, to laminating and cutting carpool tags, to stamping/numbering/delivering new textbooks to several grade levels, to preparing a welcome back lunch for 70 teachers, the jobs are endless.
~*~
I'm not complaining... yet.  I like being part of the excitement of getting ready for a new school year.  I like the camaraderie with fellow parents.  I like watching it all come together.  And I will like sending Sophie off to that school next Tuesday, knowing she is in excellent, well-prepared hands :)

Makeover Monday: 3/26

~*~
Sometimes in life, I mean in thrift stores, a sheet will just speak to me.  It's usually the combination of the colors, the pattern, and the feel of the material that says, "Make with me!"  This cotton fabric with alluring grass green leaves didn't just speak... it kind of screamed.  So I had to put it in the cart before people started to stare.
~*~

I realized I haven't been making the table coaster rugs lately, and that I only have one or two in the shop.  This one is almost 12 inches across- a nice size for a large casserole or centerpiece.
~*~
After the coaster, I had enough fabric left to make a bowl, too!  This one is 7 inches wide and over 3" high.  Both of these will be in sosorosey today or tomorrow.
~*~
Welcome to the last week of March!  Allergy season is in full swing, so our family has been plagued with all sorts of sniffles and such.  I have three Easter baskets to finish by Friday, so you know what I'll be doing this week.  How about you?  Any big projects or activities?

Makeover Monday: 9/26

In honor of fall finally arriving- even if it is in name only at this point- I chose this harvesty leafy paisley pillowcase for today's project.
~*~
The result... a happy little "ball bowl" with autumnal pops of color!
~*~

And, a request for a baby's first ornament star with purple led me to this receiving blanket.
~*~

Paired with a lavender ribbon and name charm, it is a purple star fit for a brand new princess!
~*~
Happy Monday, dear friends!  And happy birthday to my hubby, too!  I have a week full of errands and appointments ahead of me.  How about you... any special plans for this last week of September?

X Factor

Perhaps it looks easy to crochet with fabric. I won't claim that it's rocket science, but there is some skill involved. There is having knowledge of your fabric and cutting it to the width necessary for both the project and the material, there is choosing the correct hook, there is maintaining the proper tension, and probably a few other things that I can't even think of right now. But, there is also some sort of inexplicable factor that often makes me conclude that the work takes on a life of its own. Usually this is a good thing, or not a bad thing...but sometimes it's just plain odd!
~*~ This bright bowl looks normal enough in this photo. It was crocheted from a freshly laundered piece of tie dyed bed sheet. I used the exact same number and type of stitches that I always use for these bowls. I worked it the same way I always work it as I go along. Yet, this isn't quite a bowl.
~*~
It's kind of a cave. Or a modified cornucopia. No matter how I turn it (even inside out), no matter how I stretch it, no matter how I push/pull or look at it... the result is the same. It lays on its side.
~*~
I have been doing this crochet gig full time for years and have never had this particular thing happen. Apparently, no matter how OCD I am about my stitches, my work will always have the human factor. *whacks self on the head* Ahhh, I am not a machine! Now I need to decide whether anyone but me could appreciate and use this "sculpture"... opinions?

Makeover Monday 1/10

When I went thrifting at Yesterday's Rose last week, I wasn't looking for t-shirts. When I got there, however, I discovered that t-shirts were on sale: 4 for $1. I decided it would be a good time to look for tie-dyed tees to repurpose. I only found two, but how exciting that they were both red and white! Perfect for the upcoming month of love.
~*~

I cut and crocheted the extra large shirt last night. This is a really nice sized bowl, and I even had enough fabric to give it a fancy rim. I think she looks like a plus size peppermint :)
~*~
Happy Monday! The forecast is calling for snow along the east coast tomorrow, so there is a decent chance that Sophie may finally get to use her new Christmas sled! I'm looking forward to a week of finishing up a couple of custom orders and crossing some items off of my to-do list for this month. What do you have going on these days?

Makeover Monday

I was fortunate to have someone stop by sosorosey and purchase several of my bright bowls last week. Lucky me, I get to restock the shelves with color! I chose this ultrabold tie dyed t-shirt as a good start.
~*~

It worked up to be a very sturdy little number- about 3.5" by 3.5". The orange and green combo makes me think of happy little leprechauns!

Makeover Monday: 9/20

Back in the day, in my junior high prepster phase, these colors were the ultimate in style and sophistication. Oh, I'd have my Izod polo shirt (collar up), and my Pappagallo button-on purse cover to match. I do wish I had a photo to share with you. Not!
~*~

The pillowcase turned into a fun little bowl, though; these colors really pop!

~*~

It's looking like it should be a relatively calm week around here. Hubby's birthday is next Sunday, so Sophie and I will be making mad preparations for a fun celebration. Other than that, I have a custom order to finish up and two to begin- that's always really exciting! Hope you have a super Monday, and a happy week :)
