Spill It Session #9

~*~
Yeah baby.  There they are- The Stray Cats.  My first concert.  Early 80s.  I was 14, and I remember how Tina Carpenter and I labored over our outfits before the show.  I wore a flashdance cut pink sweatshirt covered with rock star pins.  And gray parachute pants.
~*~
Over the next couple of decades I went on to see The Police, The Cars, The Ramones, Sting, REM, Culture Club, U2, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, The Grateful Dead, The Cranberries, Sex Pistols, The Indigo Girls, Melissa Etheridge, The Goo Goo Dolls, Vertical Horizon, Shawn Colvin, Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris, Peter Gabriel, and Dave Matthews.  A couple of Lollapaloozas.  A couple of American Idols.  Many more I've either forgotten or repressed.
~*~
Sophie's first concert was an outdoor Reggae Fest when she was about 2.  She loved it!  She has seen other live shows, but nobody "big".  We think this may be her summer for another concert or two.  Mike and I both love live music, and we live pretty close to two awesome outdoor venues.
~*~
So, spill it- what was your first concert?  What other artists have you seen?

Spill It Session #5

Mother's Day, 2000.  Having spent a lovely day celebrating my mom, I set out to meet a friend and her boyfriend at a neighborhood bar in Arlington, VA.  Whitlows was pretty empty that night, and the three of us chatted easily at the bar.  A guy walked by, caught my eye, and said "hi".  I said "hi", and he continued to his table.  This might seem normal enough, and maybe it is where YOU live.  Just outside of the nation's capitol, however, men don't just smile nicely and say hi.  They are too cool.  They have to play all sorts of weird games and make you wonder.  That's how it was back then, anyway- so I knew right away that either this guy was strange or not from around here.  He was awfully cute, so I hoped for the latter.
~*~
Almost a year out of a pretty unhealthy 5 year relationship at that point, I was finally feeling very emotionally good.  Living in my very own apartment, dating occasionally, spending time with friends, and generally just relearning old pastimes and discovering new ones.  I wasn't looking for love, but it found me!
~*~
Mike was indeed not from around the DC area, but rather from Massachusetts- just like my grandmother's family.  That first night at Whitlows he ultimately asked me to play pool with him, and the rest is history.  We married on June 8th, 2002- just over two years from the night we first met.
~*~
That's my story... now spill it, sista- how did you and your significant other meet?  Currently single?  No problem- feel free to share any first meeting story!  I can't wait to learn more about you all :)

Spill It Session #3

There I am: the skinny, pimply, awkward 9th grade new girl in town. Virginia Beach, Virginia. First week of high school. Dressed out for PE. Running the track. As far from the door to get back in the gym as it's possible to be. A seagull passing overhead takes aim, fires. Nails it. A giant, runny white splotch lands on my head. Not the back of my head. Or the side. Nope. Right in front.
~*~
In a shocked stupor, I jog the rest of the way around the track with my hand on my head- looking like I'm in some sort of swoon, I'd imagine. Running inside without even asking permission, I tried my hardest to wash the gunk out of my hair in the bathroom sink before anyone could figure out what I was doing.
~*~
I foresaw some kind of scene out of Carrie...all the kids pointing and shrieking as I walked down the hall. In actuality, there was only mild ribbing. To my shocked surprise, I did not come away from this incident with any permanent nickname or mental illness. Still, over 25 years later, I count it up there as one of my most embarrassing moments. We all have them, right? Please, oh please, leave a comment and share one of yours!

Getting to Knooooooooow Youuuuuuuu

There he is. My celebrity crush: Mark Wahlberg. I love him in all of his roles, whether he's rapping his Marky Mark heart out, posing in his Calvin Klein undies, or playing a porn star in Boogie Nights. My absolute favorite Mark, though, is the Perfect Storm Mark. I don't know if it's the tough guy fisherman thing or the Massachusetts accent thing, but man oh man is this my "other" man. My main man Mike comes first, of course, but y'know.
~*~
Ever since many of you shared your interesting facts the other week, I've been thinking how nice it was to get to know you a bit better- and for all who leave comments to get to know each other as well. So, since we can't all get together in actuality and have a girly gab-fest, I thought I might host a "cyber spill it" session every once in awhile. So, pull up a comfy chair and your snack and beverage of choice...First topic: Who is your celebrity crush?
