WIP Wednesday

Sometimes it seems that my best ideas come to me when I don't have the immediate time to pursue them.  That gives me time to think out the details, though.

After contemplating all of the comments from yesterday's post, I came up with the most awesome new item!  Check it out: one of a kind special occasion origami star Christmas ornaments made from...
...wait for it...
... vintage gift wrap!

I KNEW there was a real purpose behind this collection of mine!  I have vintage wrapping paper for every occasion imaginable.  These top two stars are wedding themed, and the last one is new baby girl.  Wouldn't these make the coolest shower gifts?

I folded these using smaller squares, so they are the perfect size for hanging on a tree.  Now I just need to figure out the "hanger" part.  I want it to go through the middle if I can, since there is a natural opening there.  I'll play around with the possibilities over the next few days.  Look out for those and more vintage gift wrap goodies in sosofabulous before summer's end!

I'd love to show you mine but they are packed away with the Christmas items :(

What a wonderful idea! My Dad's girlfriend attached a couple of pretty origami ornaments to presents a few years ago. She threaded some thin wire through the pieces and added some beads. They go up on our tree every year.

These are just soooo pretty Jennie!

When i saw yesterdays, i thought that they would make amazing tree ornies, or really special tag ons.

They really are beautiful, and the colours are gorgeous :o)

Big love n hugs,

Simply beautiful! Very clever thinking, Jennie. :-)

For the hanger, it seems that there are overlapping folds, so you could utilize them in hiding a thread. It's difficult to explain in text, but I'll do my best. If you thread a length of thread through the hole in the middle, so that the middle of the thread is at the star, you can bring both ends of the thread up to tie into a loop. Both halves of the loop can hide on either side, underneath the overlap where the crooks of the star points meet. You can attach the top of the loop to a traditional ornament hook. Did any of that make sense? I hope so.

In any event, they're gorgeous! <3

Thanks so much, Karen, Cerise and Donna!

Kristine- pure genius! I think you've helped me with my dilemma- that really sounds like a winning idea. Thank you :)
