WiP Wednesday

~*~
Usually when I make rugs or coasters, I cut the fabric strips pretty thick and use a super large crochet hook.  Lately, though, I've been experimenting with achieving a more delicate, lacy look.  By cutting the fabric much thinner and continuing to use the large hook, the end result is more open.  This leaves the item functional yet flexible.  This mat is still in progress... it is being made from a gorgeous tie-dyed cotton sheet that I've been saving for just the right project.  I'm anxious to see how large it will end up- I'll keep you posted!

Here's a coaster/trivet with this effect that I finished recently.  This one is made from two matching pillowcases, and it measures 10.5" wide.  Even though it is more of an open weave, it still offers plenty of table protection.  Perfect for under a plant or hot casserole dish in the farmhouse kitchen.  I love those little red flowers peeping out of this one.
