Nope, not a magazine rack/stand. Kristine was closest when she mentioned "shoe". It's a wooden shoeshine caddy- ribbed at the top for the shoe to perch without slipping, and 4 compartments to contain all of the shoeshine stuff. It is very solid and heavy-would make a great art supply tote. Thanks for guessing, gals!
