Friday's Favorite Fabric Find

~*~
80's cartoon print sheets are more popular than I ever could have imagined.  Strawberry Shortcake lovers abound, but Garfield is pretty sought after as well.  This sheet is a vibrant periwinkle, and it has kind of a mod feel to the rainbow graphics.
~*~
I'm letting this handsome boy take center stage for today, but I have lots of new fabrics to share next week.  Have a wonderful weekend!!

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
It seems I took a little impromptu blog vacation.  Sorry about that!  Some days you just can't fit everything in, right?
~*~
The treasure I'm celebrating today is a special order from a new customer in New york.  She spied this little hanging pod in sosorosey and asked if I could make two larger ones for her.  No problem!
~*~
~*~
This is the first finished bucket measuring in at a whopping 6" by 6".  I wonder what will be contained in this?  The second one will be the same size, done in a complementary pattern.  I'm anxious to get started on that one tonight.  Stay tuned :)

Makeover Monday: 11/26

~*~
For this project I used a silver yarn that I found in the sale bin on my last trip to AC Moore.  Added a little festive baker's twine and several feet of white lace...
~*~
 ~*~
... and we have a pretty garland for the mantle!  I have several versions of this in my mind, and I hope to have the time to bring them to life at some point.
~*~
This is shaping up to be a VERY busy week.  In fact, I just started listing out all I have to do and got exhausted just writing it all down.  Luckily most of it is related to school or fun, so I am very thankful for that.  Hope you have a wonderful week!

Knit Bomb

~*~
I'm still wading through photos from the weekend, but I wanted to share this with you tonight!  As we were walking back to our hotel along the streets of downtown Baltimore, Mike and I spied this yarn-bombed bench.  This is the first graffiti of this type that I have ever seen in person, and I must say, I quite enjoyed it.  Have you ever experienced a knit bomb in person?  Participated in one?  If you'd like to know a bit more about this movement, here's a fun article I found on Apartment Therapy.  Hope your weekend has been the bomb so far!  Sorry- couldn't resist!

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
If you have been a visitor for awhile, you may recall this poem from last year.  Lucky for me, the 1st grade team uses it, too!
~*~
~*~
Here is Sophie's 2012 edition.  The head is over there on the far right, and the teacher did the feet... "in a very messy way," according to my child.
~*~
Yep, she's a different sort of turkey bird, and I wouldn't have her any other way.  Happy birthday, big girl!!!  I know you will appreciate that there are seven different rows of color on your turkey... did you do that on purpose?

Wednesday's Works

It's been a busy time at the soso world headquarters!  I've been very fortunate to have just the right amount of work to do- plenty to keep me busy, but not so much as to make me crazy.  Er, crazier.
~*~
 ~*~
The order for these two baby stars came to me via facebook, and I'm so happy to have reconnected with this customer.  These left for Rhode Island yesterday.
~*~
 ~*~
I've been playing around with yarns and hook sizes for the lacy scarf that I love so much.  Finally, I think I have the look and feel I was going for.  I have a horrible time taking scarf photos, but I've got some that will *do*, so I plan to list this soon as a made to order item in sosorosey.
~*~
~*~
These jute applique flowers are a custom order for a new customer.  I love the way they turned out- I could see a lovely garland of these made with red ribbons as a festive winter "snowflake" decoration.  I'm not sure what the customer plans to do with them, but I'd love to see the end result!
~*~
In between these crochet projects, I've been busy helping Sophie with her school timeline project and also trying to keep up with the "birthday month from hell".  NINE family birthdays in one month- and the month before Christmas at that.  Tomorrow is a big day.  Thanksgiving AND my baby turns seven years old.  SEVEN!  We're heading up to PA for a weekend of celebrations, so stay tuned for photos :)
~*~
What have you been working on this week?  And for you Americans, how do you plan to spend Thanksgiving this year?

Tuesday's Treat

~*~
Behold the fabulousness that I just received in the mail- the expert handiwork of Charlotte from Bizzie Lizzie.  This isn't my first order from Charlotte, and I'm certain it won't be my last.  I can always count on each transaction to be absolutely perfect from beginning to end: communication is prompt and super friendly, custom orders ship out in a very timely manner, and the workwomanship cannot be beat.
~*~
These tissue holders were made just for me, from reclaimed vintage linens, and I can't wait to give them as gifts this holiday.  The people who received the Bizzie Lizzie zippered pouches last year are still raving about them.  Shopping with Charlotte is a always a special treat- I give this woman and shop my highest praise and recommendation!

Makeover Monday: 11/19

~*~
I found this fun paisley tablecloth the other day, and knew the colors and pattern would look lovely as a crocheted *thing*.
~*~
~*~
I love it!  This basket is positively bursting with personality.  It's a large one, too- about 10" across and 4" tall.  A perfect fruit bowl for that eco~conscious person on your holiday list.

Pretty Patchwork

~*~
Just look what I spied hanging on a rack at the thrift the other day!  Mind you, this was not even *officially* for sale as the rack was still technically in the employees only section.  But what's an arm's length among friends, right?  Can you guess what it is?  Can you can you can you?

Ready to Roll

The other day, my blog friend Shari over at Lauren's Closet posted some beautiful pictures of salt dough ornaments that she made. These are not the clunky, chunky dough ornaments of yesteryear. Oh no. They are sweet and delicate and absolutely gorgeous.  See them for yourself right here!
~*~
~*~
Being the super generous person that she is, Shari has posted a salt dough ornament tutorial on her blog!  She has inspired me, and I'll bet she'll inspire you, too.
~*~
In preparation for my "salt dough day with Sophie", I picked up this batch of Christmas cookie cutters at the thrift store yesterday.  $1.91 for the bag!
~*~
~*~
Same store, different bag, I found these snowflakes to use for the impressions.  We're off to the store in a bit to get our flour and salt.  While Sophie was impressed with the beauty of the ornaments we are going to make, she was a little dismayed that they look like "cookies you can't even eat".  So, in addition to the flour and salt, we'll be purchasing some cookie dough to bake while we're rolling and designing our ornaments.  ;)
~*~
If you decide to try your hand at these too, please send me photos!

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

Loads of pretty flowers this week!
~*~

~*~
It's more rare to find mint green in vintage sheets, so I have to say the last one is my fave this week.  Fabric number 2 is 100% cotton, and that is a rarity as well.  I've had #1 and #4 before, but these are really beautiful fabrics that I was happy to find again.  If I remember correctly, #3 is a designer sheet-  Bill Blass I think.  Love those dainty dots and tendrils.
~*~
What's on the agenda for the weekend in your neck of the woods?  Here we will be finishing up a big school project and preparing for our Thanksgiving trip and birthday celebrations next week!

Thursday's Treasure

Me time!  Time to make what I want to make, how I want to make it, is a treasure indeed.  So without further ado, meet the lovely and peaceful Miss Kitty Snow Cat:
~*~

~*~
And her contented beau, Mr. Kitty Snow Cat!
~*~

Now to decide whether to sell them individually, or as a couple.  Opinions?
~*~
~*~
It's so hard to tell from these photos, but the yarn I used is a white cotton that has a silver sparkle running through it.  I think it will pick up the lights on a Christmas tree and add a bit of magic to the kitties :)

Wednesday's Works

Lest you think that all I do these days is sit around making wreaths, let me tell you, there's been plenty of star making as well! I finished my 50 star wholesale order and sent them off to Alabama yesterday.  They will be sold as part of a new collaboration with this adorable website: http://nightowlpapergoods.com
~*~

~*~
While I was searching for some supply or another, I came across some of the primitive rag balls that I had set aside last year.  The stars made from them really showcase the gorgeous colors and feedsack fabrics, and I'm excited to be able to offer these in sosorosey again.
~*~

 ~*~
A "baby star" customer from 2010 came back for another one for their new baby girl!
~*~
~*~
And the guidance counselor at Sophie's school just had a little boy, so this will be sent off to her as she enjoys her maternity leave.
~*~
I finished up my 5 potholder order this week, too.  So now maybe, just maybe, I can bring my 2012 ornament idea to life.  Stay tuned for that - it's gonna be a cute one if I can work out the details!  Enough about me- what have you been working on this week?

Tuesday's Treat

~*~
This isn't my typical thrift store purchase, but for some reason I could not leave these gals behind.  The polka dots drew me in, and the big smiles captured me.  Even more fun?  They are bobble-heads or nodders, so when you jostle them in the slightest their heads wiggle all around.  I *think* these would be called kokeshi dolls, but they are a style that is unfamiliar to me.  Does anyone think they could be considered vintage?  I'd love to sell them...

Makeover Monday: 11/12

~*~
For Nana's wreath, we chose a varied size mix of newer and vintage balls in cranberry, subtle gold, and white.  A few of the white balls have holly sprigs painted on them in traditional red and green.
~*~
I glued the tops on, Mike formed the hanger, and Sophie put them on in the order she thought would look best.
~*~
~*~
Finished it off this morning with a bow made from glittered golden tulle.  She really lights up a room!  I think this would look especially stunning on Nana's mantle... what do you think, Nans?

It's Time...

... to let the thankfulness begin!  Somehow I have failed to realize how close we are to Thanksgiving!  It's only 11 days away, so this was a perfect weekend for Sophie to make the turkey mosaic craft she just received from Aunt Irene.
~*~
~*~
Isn't he precious?
~*~
~*~
And I thought I'd share this gorgeous enamel turkey platter that will be coming to sosovintage today.  I hope it finds a new home for the holiday!

Spotlight Saturday

Today all eyes are on the work of Karen from The Vintage Station!  Karen had been wanting to make a vintage ornament wreath for awhile, and she collected special ornaments from all over Pennsylvania on a weekend long shopping spree.  She was not looking forward to gluing them on a wreath form, though.  As luck would have it, she happened upon my blog post about the wreaths before she got started, and she decided to try the hanger version.
~*~
~*~
Just look at what she created!!  Isn't this gorgeous??  She and her husband came up with the fabulous idea of creating a hook and loop type closure with the hanger before any balls were ever added.  This gave her the flexibility to close up the wreath when she needed a break or wanted to check her progress.  It also made it easy for her to take them off and change things around when she felt like it.
~*~

~*~
She was so pleased with her vintage creation that she decided to make two more smaller wreaths as well.  She used new ornaments and tried purchased wire for these, but found that there was some sag with the thinner wire.  So, she went back to the hanger method.  This one is the "shiny" wreath...
~*~

~*~
... and this one is a more matte, glittery style.
~*~
*APPLAUSE* for Karen!!!  These came out so beautiful that I am going to use her tips and try again.  Apparently some Nana in Gettysburg would like one for her very own, so Mike, Sophie and I have a weekend project lined up.  Will share the results next week.   Thanks so much for sharing your work, photos, and inspiration, Karen!!

Friday's Favorite Fabric Finds

TGIF, Friends!  Here are the four new fabrics coming to sosovintage this weekend:
~*~

~*~
I'm partial to the wavy pink gingham, how about you?
~*~
Monday is Veteran's Day, so Sophia has a 3 day weekend.  We have lots of errand running and projects to do, but the weather is supposed to be nice, so maybe some outside time will be in order as well.  I have a couple of wreath projects to highlight this weekend, so do stop back by and see the lovelies that my good friend Karen has created!

Thursday's Treasure

~*~
It's rare that I walk out of a thrift store with just one thing.  I usually leave with several items or none at all.  But, the other day, this precious wooden duck was the only treasure worth standing in line over.
~*~
 ~*~
And look!  When you pull her string, she flaps her arms and legs!  She's an Alfred Mertens Pfullingen design from 1967.  Absolutely adorable colors and expression.
~*~
~*~
And woo!  On a different day, I spied these Vera Neumann vinyl placemats in with the holiday gear.  These can sell for as much as $10 per mat.  Guess how many I got for $2.99??   Leave a comment with your guess and I'll be back to share the answer tonight!
~*~
Have you found any treasures lately?  I'd love to hear about them :)
